Proving Grounds boss
I killed it by depleting the knight guy's armor gauge. So was there any point in attacking the golem at all?

I only recall ever attacking the knight, so, possibly, no? But I'm not sure about that.

I did the same thing too, but apparently you're supposed to kill the Golem first. Because at some point when its HP is low enough the Knight will start using stronger attacks and the Golem will heal it, making this harder phase longer. As long as you have enough item and MP to last longer, killing the Golem first is slower but should be easier.

I did the same. Just attacking the knight. The golem healing was probably there to alter people's strategy, but it's much too weak to make a difference.
There's another reason: not all the attacks deplete the shield of the knight, so depending on your team you may need to be atacking the Golem with a few members. Think that if you don't deplete the shield enough the Golem does not restore it, and attacks normally...

I killed the angel first and wondered exactly the same thing as you OP!

Considering how tough the batle itself can be unless you power level. I think killing the angel first ( especially on hard mode) is the right way to go about it.

The golems heal is too low, and killing the golem first actually makes the battle last longer since than you have to defeat 2 bosses instead of 1.

If you want a complete enemy book, then you need to kill the golem (Slaosha) before killing the knight/angel (Astraea).

You can do this later in a sort of boss rush mode though, so in the story battle, it doesn't matter.

There's a mechanic in the game for challenges. This boss comes up again in that challenge and if you don't kill the golem, the angel only takes a few HP of damage.

I'd imagine, even though most of us outlevel it by Bounty Hill exploit, that it's similar mechanically here in the Proving Grounds, but not as noticeable.
