I think it's just random, and Mellore's words are full of fluff.
this fights driving me up the freaking wall most so in the mystery room,,,
even tho half the time 150 doesn't so much damage and the stun effect doesnt always trigger.... for the lower hitting party members i need that freaking hammer.....
but trying to get the right book and "the whispers" pretty much not telling me anything at all...this fights a pain to complete when attempting to get off the 1st floor >.<
Again, it's almost certainly flavor dialogue for Mellore that doesn't actually mean anything in a technical, gameplay sense. There are no apparent visual or audio cues that would indicate which would be the right one to hit. The line's just there to hammer in how committed she is to her whole magical girl shtick, and hitting the right one will depend entirely on luck.
But yeah, I listened closely with headphones, there's no audio cue at all.
