My save files won't load.
175 hours of play is gone for me. Though my files do appear to exist on steam and on my desktop, the cannot be loaded and the option to load my game is unavailable upon startup. I have tried everything I know how to make them load. My data is just not there. I'm really devastated about it.

Why are your save files on your desktop?

I assume they meant their computer, as opposed to the cloud. Not the actual desktop.

I don't want to make assumptions.

I'd guess they have their save somewhere it doesn't belong. That's usually the case. These topics pop up on every game. It's usually multiple users or people playing around with mods or people changing security levels or moving their saves/folders.

I think I'm having this same issue. 16 hours in I had a crash and when I restarted my saves appeared to be gone, with my only option being to start a new game. I can find my saves locally, but Steam is only loading from the cloud. My cloud saves are synced. Game integrity is 100%. I can't figure it out.

I tried starting a new game to and saving it in slot 3 (previously unfilled). That save appeared locally and when I restart it's available to load, with the first 2 & auto slots empty (those were previously filled).

I've reached out to Steam and 505. Any thoughts here? Trying to find a way to manually amend my cloud saves and not having much luck.

UPDATE:

This got weird. I disabled all of my cloud saving (unsure of the relevance of that) and loaded my Slot 3 (Level 1 Arenside w/ 2 minutes playtime). I opened my menu and realized I had the amount of gil I had before I lost my save. Swapped to the party menu and had my full party from before. Ran outside and it was clear the story progression was up to where it was formerly. Saved in slot 4 and had my old playtime, level, and seemingly everything else back, albeit on the opposite side of the map from where I was last. This game is wild, man.

Hope this helps somebody.

Except you are making assumptions. None of that is accurate. By desktop, I mean a desktop computer. No mods. I have never once played with mods or pirated anything. And as it happens, the save folder both on steam and on my computer both have my save data, but when I start it only allows me to start a new game.

Maybe due to recent windows update? Try to restart pc and see how it goes? Seems more like a steam issue or internet connection or windows issue.

What it sounds like to me is that the game can't access wherever the saves are being stored.

Try going directly to the executable for the game and running it as an administrator, and then see if your save files show up.

So it turns out there was an issue with the game and save files becoming unreadable. I do want you all to know that 505 responded to me, released a patch, put my game temporarily in dev mode, and fixed my saves! Granted, it was a complex problem. But 505's response, while slow, has been incredible. Figured I owed everyone on here some closure. Thanks for your support.
