-I set myself a goal, like... 30-50 clams. I fish until I get those, generally getting around a stack of scrap metal and plastic in the process. Then I fish with those clams. Processing the fish you collect usually gives another stack or so of scrap. Then you can eat the fish. I tend to find more scrap from the "crap" fish - the ones caught through electrosyte tail bait. I also tend to find a lot more slime/ink from these, so I go with clams instead (less effort involved than there is in farming for worms). I wouldn't waste plastic making lures either.
Option 2: Grow brightflowers in your farm.
-Replace all of your biomass use in generators with brightflowers instead. Use your new stock of biomass in your atomic recycler to convert them into plastic every 2-3 days.
Incidentally I tried a lot of fishing and got far fewer fairy lights, and no microwaves at all. Which is a bit dull because fish themselves are boring, and basically useless to me. The dismantling game is fun (although it'll be more enjoyable when they're able to add more things to dismantle, which obviously shouldn't be a priority).
