Why exactly no coop?
This is the perfect game for coop. Its strange theyre not apparently even considering coop and without mod support, the game will fly under the radar. I cant consider purchasing the game unless that changes. Whether people agree or not, this game would be fantastic even with just 2 player coop. I prefer experiences that can be shared with 1 or more teammates and its a shame when games with so much potential fall into the shadows without coop or mod support for the community to figure it out ourselves. This comes from a place of love for tinyBuild too. Its understandable if the knowledge on mod support or coop isnt as vast for the tinybuild team but theyve had experience with coop and multiplayer support for a few games already and i gotta say its sad if this game doesnt do so well due to lack of certain features.

Yeah well, in fairness my generation is the first to seriously play games. One did not do that with one's parents. At all. We were using real computers, not consoles obviously. And had we had online co-op it would have been the way but by the time that became possible, I was no longer a child. Even Diablo was played over LAN networks.
That's really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cool, but as a history nerd I gotta history nerd. Setting aside ancient history, the Gold Age of Board Games was the Great Depression and it was a huge deal.
No one had any cash, board games only had to be bought once (people who couldn't afford even that made honest to god bootlegs of games like monopoly). I
t was a difficult time & being able to spend a few hours connecting with people you cared for and having fun? Helped a lot of people through a tough part of history.

I say these things not to in any way undermine your point(s), but because this is something that's being forgotten as it fades from living memory. (also cause stories about how people weathered tough times in the past can be encouraging when current times are also tough)

So yeah, total nonsequetor. Sorry.

As someone who worked for an indie dev team that added co-op. The idea that adding co-op gets more sales is laughable. The increase in playerbase was negligible
While I would traditionally agree, I think it is changing. As an older Millennial with three kids, I am seeing a much larger uptake of parents gaming with their kids. Family gaming is becoming much larger thing than it used to be. in 10 years it will be normal.

Just for myself, we have 4 computers and game together regularly to both teach kids how to socialise as a team, and as family time.

Adding coop to a game is not just about ticking some box in an engine.

The entire game from the ground up has clearly been designed as a single player game.

There is likely no networking supported in the code, no balancing considerations for having to have twice as many of certain resources, certain game mechanics would straight up need to be entirely re-worked for coop vs solo, need all new animations/graphics/etc, content would be consumed faster and everyone would demand more of the devs. Is the server persistent or does it require both players to be online?

All this translates to a more expensive game for everyone, for a game simply only ever intended to be played solo. Will 90% of the playerbase agree to a $3 cost increase for a feature used by 10% of the playerbase?

There are already so many multiplayer survival games out there, why can't there be a single player one?

As a disclaimer I own and play single and multiplayer games. While multiplayer games are somewhat okay, depends on the game and situation I find the games developed for single play quite enjoyable. This game was not developed as a multiplayer and I sort of take offense at others trying to browbeat the dev's into making it so. We all saw how that worked for games like Dinkum and MTA Sandrock. Dinkum lost most of their hardcore players after the dev decided to cater to mutliplayer's and his fellow countrymen's demands. The game still has not recovered. One update alone is dedicated to multiplayer's so they could enjoy the beach life. Single players felt left out, rightly so, and trying to buy the expensive ticket to visit and the time wasted for little reward, made that update the worst. Single players left. MTA Sandrock is the same and now the dev's are crowd-sourcing to fund their next MTA. Planet Crafter's is another single player turned multi and lost over half their players. That plus the three endings were less than desirable. Fact is the large percentage don't play multiplayer, sorry not bound to the basement and can talk to my friends face to face over a few beers. The desire from multiplayer's to force dev's into re-developing their game into something fitting to a small crowd is shortsighted.

All in all if you want to play multiplayer, go for it and find games that cater to that. Just asking that you stop requesting dev's to change their dream to fit yours. As to why most hate multiplayer games, top answer: Tired of others trying to off me and steal my stuff just for their amusement. Can attest to this, even in No Man's Sky while on the posted quest, twice had players stalking a portal and offing anyone coming to finish a quest. Why? Not like you can plunder the body. If you truly wish for games to be multiplayer than by all means learn how to code and develop/release your own game. Until then enjoy the fruits of others.

it's better to have a good singleplayer experience than a mediocre coop game imo. like you said, it was created only with 1 person in mind.

baffles me when people request or sometimes even demand coop in solo game. :conwayshrug:

Planet Crafter turned out to be such a disappointment. I couldn't believe when they announced they were adding multiplayer. I didn't buy the game in Early Access in order to help fund some bs multiplayer game. I wanted them to ship a great single-player game.

The developer is Mandragora. Their experience is important.
They made 4 games, one of them with multiplayer (Freaky_Awesome)
https://store.steampowered.com/developer/mandragora/#browse

If the multiplayer experienced programmers are still in the team, they could have made it multiplayer.
But I see that those games were mixed. Maybe the programmers left and new ones came.
This one is the first very positive rated game.

I think coop is a gread idea for play this game in coop, because my friend has giving up without me.
Please include a coop in the next game.

I understand wanting to play with your friends, and I do agree that coop would be fun with the right partner, but refusing to buy a fun game just because you have to play alone is silly. This is a great, relaxing experience, and it's meant to be a solo game by the narrative. There is a reason you're alone. You shouldn't let no-multiplayer keep you away from games in general. I buy games that are multiplayer despite being extremely reluctant to trust other players, because the experience of the game is worth it. Give this one a try and you won't regret it.
