Updated: Q&A with the Developers - JAN 2024
Hello, Future-Dwellers🚀

We have gathered the questions and are excited to answer them regarding the game's development and upcoming features! 🤖

Here are the questions and answers from the developers:

Q1 - Are there going to be human characters or are they all haunted appliances?
Cosmopolis is hiding a lot of secrets, including survivors we haven't had a chance to meet yet.

Q2 - Will there be mod support?
We have received numerous requests from the community to add mod support. However, our team wants to gain more experience before implementing such a feature, so we are currently conducting research.

Q3 - When do we get to kill those big plants and weeds?
You can now build a structure to get rid of those pesky weeds! Reach the end of the game to find out more!

Q4 - Will there be more non-biofuel sources of energy?
Yes, the plan is to let players use natural energy in the future.

Q5 - Are we going to be able to go inside the buildings in the future?
Yes! We are exploring the possibility of adding an exciting feature for exploring the inside of the buildings below!

Q6 - Will you be adding a co-op mode soon?
Unfortunately, there are no plans to incorporate this.

Q7 - Will click-to-move ever be supported?
We're happy to report that our team is making progress towards controlling characters as we had planned.

Q8 - Are you going to add any new translations?
Yes! If we receive a high enough demand and when we have resources. We want to add as many languages as possible.

Q9 - What engine was this made in?
Unity

Q10 - What was the inspiration?
It's quite a vast subject to discuss. So, we love the theme of the post-apocalypse, which is evident in all our projects. But with I Am Future, we wanted to create a very positive and cozy video game about the post-apocalypse where you have your quiet place with beautiful nature around you.

Somewhere you can get away from the noise of the city and begin a new peaceful life.
The head of the studio, Eugene, got this idea when he moved from a big city into a country house during the COVID-19. The movie I Am Legend was also one of the biggest inspirations for our game; as you may remember, in the first half of the movie, the main character is living in the post-apocalypse, not surviving.

He goes shopping and listens to Bob Marley on his record player—in other words, tries to live a normal life. When it comes to the art style, we were inspired by physical dioramas with destroyed houses overgrown with greenery and half submerged in water. That seemed incredibly beautiful to us, especially considering the fact this theme hadn't been reflected enough in games.

Q11 - Any plans to be able to build furniture?
We're planning to release a pack of decorative constructions, including the ability to rebuild previously disassembled roof objects.

Q12 - Is there a Mac version planned?
It's in our plans for the Version 1.0 release.

Q13 - Will you be able to patch up the holes in the rooftop floor?
Yes! This feature is now available in-game.

Q14 - Are there any plans for storing large amounts of fresh water, like in a water tank?
Of course! We're currently working on this feature

Q15 - Will the Engineer Minion have any other tasks besides refilling generators?
Yes, our team is looking to expand the range of constructions the Engineer Minion maintains.

Q16 - Is there consideration for adding a jump command?
The location's design is not suitable for implementing a jump feature. Some areas are currently closed off.

Q17 - What methodology do you guys work with?
Our motto is, to work on a project until we're satisfied with it! We try to maintain a healthy and creative atmosphere so that the developers are happy to do their thing. We have weekly sprints and try not to crunch, as it negatively affects the final product.

Q18 - What does the code release schedule revolve around?
The final update schedule will be revealed later; we are already actively working on implementing the new content and mechanics reflected in our roadmap.

Q19 - Are there any easter eggs in the game?
Yes, there are! Can you guess them?

Q20 - Can we travel across the map later?
The game world will be constantly expanding with new rooftop and expedition locations.

Q21 - Will there be bigger storage for wood, sheet metal, and glass?
Yes, and, in addition to storage—an increased capacity version of the sprinkler

Q22 - Will we get to build a home instead of sleeping on the lawn chair?
So far, we haven't planned for a huge home building but you can build new functional furniture.

Q23 - Is the main character based on any of the devs? If so, who is he and why?
Our main character embodies the characteristics of each member of the Mandragora team.

Q24 - When will there be controller support?
We will be releasing controller support Feb 2024. Our team is currently prioritizing bringing you all controller support ASAP!

That's all for now, future dwellers!
Thank you for your ongoing support of I Am Future, especially during our Early Access phase as we continue to improve and develop the game.

Leave a comment if you have any questions for future Q&A with the developers.

Why was there no mention of controller support or when it will be added? I know this is something a lot of players were interested to know.

Bought the game because I thought I played the demo with a controller and saw it was coming out soon. With my disability its too hard to play without a controller so please release it soon.

I supported you guys and bought the game, hopefully i’ll get to play with my xbox controller, cause I typically don’t play these kinds of games without it. So, I’m taking you at your word that you will add it in. Can't wait :steamhappy:

Hi. It's now November and still no patch for the broken day/night/can't sleep bug. When can we expect it?
Draco Nov 10, 2023 @ 10:33am
the one question i see that has not been asked yet is when will you be opening more of the area's that are closed off to use right now this should be the only question to be asked for me there is nothing more to do in the game as of right now as of 11-10-2023. so when will you be opening up more areas for use to explore and build things. ???????????????????????

Not sure where else to put this comment but could you consider allowing floor patches to unlock earlier?

It’s extremely frustrating working around those holes when setting everything up and as soon as you have them (and farm a truly insane amount of plastic…) I end up spending hours slowly rearranging my storage, machinery, cables, etc.

The inconvenience of having to plan around the small broken areas and then having to slowly, one by one, move things around into the right place; really kills the enthusiasm. It’s equivalent to moving your mansion in Minecraft, one block at a time.
