To do that, obtain a bucket near the elevator, use the elevator to descend to the fishing site, and fill the bucket with salt water. You can desalinate it using the campfire: equip the full bucket by pressing RMB and then apply. The fire has to be burning.
As for the hunger meter: the game is releasing in Early Access this August. We will listen to play feedback and tweak the hunger feature based on it. I can say that we've already seen suggestions from the community to make hunger less intense, so our team is already considering nerfing it.
To exterminate weeds, use a bug spray; there's a tutorial on how to craft it.
There's an NPC that helps steer you in the right direction, not the fridge but another appliance.
