Slime Rancher 2
Slime Ranger, not Slime Rancher
SR2 is WILDLY imbalanced in terms of what resources you can and can't ranch.

While I do vastly prefer exploring and getting resources over SR1's resource extractors, objects and upgrades need WAY too many "science resources" to construct. Plort farming and money are rarely ever a limiting factor. so ranching is not very useful. Over half the 'slots' I have available for slime corrals sit empty, plorts are always just sitting there unsold because it's not worth running back-and-forth to sell them. I don't want to decorate my ranch because they require science resources to construct and I'm already very limited.

So instead, most of my time is spent away from the ranch: running the same circuits I know have a lot of resources. The Grey Labyrinth made the problem worse: adding plort types you can't farm and must obtain out in the wild. The ranch is just a storage point full of starving slimes sitting atop mountains of plorts, and I'm left wondering if there's a rebalancing mod that'll help bring ranching back into focus.

Things that could help:
- reduce science resource requirements for constructing objects
- eliminate science resource requirements for decorations
- increase plort requirements for constructing objects
- increase money requirements for ranch expansions

But I think the biggest improvement would be:
- allow trading plorts for science resources

It could be something functionally similar to the Ranch Exchange from SR1. Fire in 50 pink plorts? Get a jellystone. Now players have a choice of whether they'd prefer focusing on exploration or ranching.

I agree with you mate, I hope they will balance it a bit once the game is finished.
The last time I played I was thinking that bringing back the resource extractors could be a good idea, let you passively generate the resources as well as find them in the world.
But I think that trading plorts for them would be a fantastic idea. It could take plorts from 3-5 slimes from the areas that they're commonly found in, with things like the diamonds needing more. I think it would even be fine if they take a lot of plorts because it's not hard to get corals set up with constant streams of them. It would be a great plort sink too.

Definitely, it would be a nice way to use your plorts rather than selling them. I also miss the little quests the npcs gave you to trade some plorts, slimes or food and now it has been replaced by some calls and give you decorations or science artifacts. I think it should be a little more challenging to earn those items just with some trading like in the first game.

I can't blame people for the typo when the game genuinely feels like you're more of a ranger than a rancher XD

"I run around the wilds, collect resources, and blow up tarr."
"What kind of slime largos did you make?"
"...oh I forgot I have slimes at home."
Ngl the amount of science items you need is why I didn't play much of the new update. Unless you were grinding out materials the entire time it feels very punishing when you suddenly need a bunch of science materials, sometimes quite rare ones, to even just make story progression stuff. I feel like by now in SR1 I'd have plenty of resources but the nodes way of gathering resources is just such a pain in the butt. I can never carry all of them from one area, I always feel like I'm missing stuff.

Were the extractors a lil op? Maybe. But I also never felt stressed out looking for materials to progress the story or decorate my farm, or use warp gates. Even the holographic markers to mark nodes take science material I just don't have. And I always gather from nodes when I see them.

Feels bad.
