What am I missing with dervish slimes?

Finally had a few hurricanes happen. There are wind devils, but there are no dervish slimes. They don't seem to spawn naturally. I tried shooting food into the tornadoes, tried to enter and ride them, but that doesn't spawn the little guys either.

So, how are dervishes spawned?

I think it's random per tornado and yeah, they seem really rare. I've only found 1 in like 50 tornadoes. Just vac it out.

I guess I got lucky, I only had one tornado storm so far and I got more than 10 Dervish slimes spawning in those tornadoes.
