Slime Rancher 2

Slime Rancher 2

Should I get Slime Rancher 1 or 2?
I've become interested in these games after seeing it recently streamed but I'm not sure I will want to get both.
From what I'm seeing there is no significant differences with the sequel. Some quality-of-life improvements and new slimes sure, but everything is going to be new for me so that's not a selling point for me.

SO! Are there any plans for significant changes or selling points to make it worth getting the sequel and waiting for it or should I just get the first one and be able to play the whole thing now? Gameplay changes, new mechanics, new buildings, anything? Even the Steam page isn't really selling this.

Edit: Forgot to ask this: What's the expected play time for 1 and 2? Both to "beat" the game and to complete it (and how much is available for 2 right now)?

Edit 2: Seems like this game isn't for me. Maybe if more is added to do and improve gameplay, like a crafting system to make more use of the plorps and needing to breed for specific plorps, it would be worth while but as it is, it's just cute slimes bouncing on screen. I think the entirety of these games can be experienced in a 1 hour youtube video.

SR2 is still in early access so it's not complete, and it may never be completed that's the risk of buying ea games. On the other hand SR1 is complete and you can buy the CD keys online for like 10 dollars. So I recommend either buying a cheap cd key for SR1, or wait until SR2 goes on sale if it ever does go on sale.

There's honestly not many major changes between the two games, there's only a few minor changes like; a new world / map to play on, a few new slimes yet some past slimes are missing, and you no longer have to use drills to mine for minerals you can now use your vacpack to suck them up.

SR2 currently does not feel like a sequel to me, it feels just like DLC. I don't think the price of 30 bucks is fair, it should be $10 at least until it's finished.

The expected play time for the first game (for me anyway but I also know every nook and cranny of the map and I don't rush things too much but I also don't try to take it slow) is about 12 hours and for the first to get to the current "end" (a specific item) took about 4 hours of not knowing anything and dying a bit plus taking it kinda slow

summary: The 2nd will probably end up being longer than the first but as of now the first is quite a bit longer and has a lot more
There is more than what was available in the first release of 1 but only 3 areas and 15 slimes compared to the 8 areas and ~18 slimes in the first game plus a completed story

This is the vibe I've been getting.
I never played the first so I imagine it would be better to wait but I'm just not seeing anything, after 30min of googling, to suggest there will be anything worth waiting for.

$10 for 12 hours seems reasonable. $20 is pushing it to me (Steam price) unless the gameplay is engaging which this doesn't seem to quite be there.

Thanks for the feedback!

I have over 500 hours playtime in Slime Rancher 1. I think I've done it all and seen it all a couple of times over. You most definitely want to get SR1 and play through it. Take your time, don't rush, look around, try different things. And then start over and do it again. By the time you get to the point where there is nothing else to do, SR2 will hopefully be in better shape and have much more content.

What makes you think MP would leave the game unfinished? (outside of the usual bad faith I see on this discussion board?)

The game is the price that it is because they say on their website that if you purchase the game it's staying with you and they intend on completing it. The price is not gonna change. Plus you know that if the game was 10 dollars and they upped the price people will complain, because they are never happy.

I got interested in slime rancher when i saw the 2nd one was coming out. I love the look of number 2. I found i owned slime rancher 1 so ive been playing that. I would suggest getting the first one, play through that, and if you like it, wait, or hop onto EA for the 2nd one. Just
note that it only recently came into EA, so there is a long time to go until it will probably feel complete.

Yea I suggest getting SR1, and hopefully the devs add some more interesting things to SR2 but I don't plan on holding my breath.

It's not really about what I think... it's just the fact that the game is in early access, and when you buy any early access game you are legit taking that risk.

Here is the early access disclaimer =

Early Access Game
Get instant access and start playing; get involved with this game as it develops.
Note: This Early Access game is not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development.

Notice the part where it says; "may or may not change further".
