Patience help?
I'm struggling to understand how this map works for the player. When I try to play, the enemy almost immediately begins sending their armies in mid week 2. The armies they have are often too big to reasonably deal with I feel, as they usually have multiple unit types in the higher double to triple digits, when I can barely get to 50 for any given unit type.

I've been trying to play it as Wild with a spell focused hero, so it might just be me not getting how the faction works. I don't want to assume it's just an unbalanced map, as there has to be some trick to turning it around that I'm not getting.

Any help please?

I played the map on hardcore+. There is no trick, its just a really hard map. As the name implies, you need to be very patient, repelling waves after waves of AI and slowly encroach on the AI territory one by one. You also need two heroes - one to take forward territory and one to defend at home (because the AI can attack you anytime through the portal).
The way I beat the map is by taking a strong hero and snowballing over some broken mechanic (in my case I think I was using that hero with hand canons and the perk for ranged attacks?). It just takes a really long time to finish.

May be try reducing the difficulty or something if you can't win

I was playing a Wild Hero. I also have no idea how one is supposed to build up two decent enough armies to counter enemy attacks before they start to arrive in waves. As I said, they begin charging through by Week the middle of week 2. And multiple AI do this at the same time.

Plus, it's a bit more RNG dependent than you might wanna admit. If the portals are all close enough to your city, then the enemy has no down time between entering them and attacking you.

So, I don't know if it's the hero or the faction I'm using. But I don't think it'd change much since the enemy often can and will attack you simultaneously and win a war of attrition.

It's just a hard map, that's the point of it and why there's an achievement based around it. Every enemy gets a 1 way teleporter into your base, and you have to go the long way to reach any of them and take them out 1 by 1. My strategy on that map was to create 1 huge doomstack with all my recruited units that just sat in my town/home province the entire game focused solely on defence and then had 4 or so really strong support heroes with no armies for offence. Using just their entourage and spells you can have extremely strong heroes who don't need any recruited troops at all. So every troop I recruited stayed in 1 army for defence and then strong heroes with only their entourages for offence.
