The other factions didnt do anything valuable, there wasnt a noticable meta play (diplomacy, war etc), it was all just pretty basic and shallow.
Also not really challenging.
The game felt like it needed at least a year more to add depth to it.
Basic systems at place, now more than has me replay and keep playing, stuff that challenges me and stuff that asks me to dig deeper.
As of now i wouldnt recommend it to anyone, so my hope is, that this update will get it into shape.
From what i can see here though, it doesnt look like it.
For example, why would i continue to hold out against these attacks?
Whats the point of even having conflicts? Are they just there to add a new economic branch and production and disturb progress?
Or is there something substantial it serves? Will this develop over time? Will the enemies adapt with new threats, develop?
Will this be there so i have to hold out as long as i can for some sort of highscore?
Or will i be able to actually defeat a major threat in this world that becomes more dangerous over time?
To me the update looks like its just more and more grind to get it done, but not adding something of value to replayability or challenge.
But i hope im wrong, as the game could do it.
With the new buildings being gated behind the dates and at least one of them being seemingly crucial for long-term playthroughs, I think that the game could really use an unlock system, so that buildings and extras unlocked in one playthrough (at least through dates) persist between different maps.
I do believe turning it into a collect-a-thlon of sorts would be more encouraging for multiple playthroughs, rather than having each a self-contained experience. At least for me it would be, right now different Princes and Princesses don't warrant a playthrough really different enough to return to the game aside of taking a peek at a latest update.
Same goes for our Hero(es, maybe? Pretty please with a cherry on top? I like Fergus, but I feel there's at least a space for a ranged hero and an obligatory sage mage - bonus points if they'll have a bone to pick with the narrator), some unlockable cosmetics could do well at encouraging another playthrough, or expanding current one beyond the final date.
I completely agree and hope the devs will add more to diplomacy or just conflicts with other kingdoms. Because right now it's way too easy to become friends with all of them, and it's useless. Just as being enemy towards them apparently. I'm not asking for a Crusader Kiings complex system or anything like that. But at least being fearful for your own kingdom if you're not friend with them and be able to make a trade pact possibly.
Stay tuned on the next dev blog
