One thing to reallize is that hitting 0 on things isn't terrible. Your fish hitting 0 constantly means that is just less strain on your bread vegetables or meat.
This game works a little bit different in that sense than the usual.
ALso, if your people are starving, yet there seems to be enough food like vegetables, etc. check the distance from work to home, etc.
I keep the families that do the farming and food gathering close to their work with their homes, and they have no problems keeping everything in stock, while keeping the granaries closer to the other main homes, let the granary workers do the traveling (But not too far), to supply the granary with food, that'll supply the homes and businesses.
Travel distance matters in this game, especially with how slow they all travel, especially considering each day is rather quick in this game.
4 - 6 veggie farms can support up to about 200 fablings or so.
When going to assign workers to a place, I've noticed that there's a tiny little circle next to their name. So far I've seen green and yellow. Is this a distance indicator for their commute? I've been trying to assign everyone to greens.
You can use the lock icon on any stockpile or granary or the embassy to make sure workers don't use a good you are trying to save for a quest.
