How do you make a steady income?
Unless I'm missing something, the only way to make money is off taxes so more fablings = more income?

Yes and that's part of the experimenting, I like it when not everything is set in stone and known.

I'm glad for you that you like it - I'm saying that I don't.

All of these systems are going to change pretty drastically over time. The game is probably 30% complete right now and we have a truckload of content on the way. If it doesn't taste good now come back later it may taste better :)

I am enjoying the game - please don't twist my words? I was just asking a question.

I literally tells you what costs taxes and what doesn't. One of the quests has you look at that submenu that shows all your workers and all your buildings. The next tab is taxes.

To save money, it seems optimized right now to unasign workers to your stone making, plank making, coal making, granary, and stockpile. And Inn, unless people are coming the next day. Actually I don't think there's any reason to put someone at the Inn until the day before someone comes. So every day that ends in a "1" or "6" is tax day, so every day that ends in "0" or "5", unasign those places. If plank or coal is almost done you can try to wait for them. But definitely, definitely, definitely do not have anyone in the stockpile, granary, or Inn (unless you have to for the Inn).

Acctually, come to think of it, the inn seems completely useless to me so far because no matter how happy they are I only ever get 2 peasants. Like, 71 or whatever happiness I have is not enough. Making wells useless, as well as the items at the houses that give happiness. :( At least for now...

But I actually hate how hard it is to get gold. You can't experiment with things or build cutesy things or extra things that cost gold because you don't have it. Decorations, extra yard space for houses, extra roads...

The only other city building game I've played recently (like last 2 decades) is They Are Billions which is also tight on cash, and this reminds me of that. Don't know if that's good or bad. But I think cash is TOO tight.

I mean it's super easy to make money. Spam houses for population. As far as I can tell there is no negative happiness or anything for unemployment. As long as you have have food, no issues. I haven't even seen any issue with not enough coal in the winter. Spam houses, have enough food and happiness for increasing population. Literally that simple.

There are certain buildings that cost upkeep to run. If you’re in a tight spot you can unassign all the workers, or “close down” those buildings to get some extra income.

Maybe it makes kind of a weird statement about the acceptability of layoffs though

You will find that many people cannot move past the notion that not everyone else is like them.

If they could the world be a much simpler and easier place.

My advice is to be really efficient in design. Don't overload with stockpiles and granaries is a big part of it. Shut off stone and wood gatherers when you've reached a point of significant excess. And be strategic in your placing of buildings that provide happiness like taverns and bakeries; overlap their range of influence as much as possible.

Doing this, I managed to generate 300 gold per income tick.

失业的人也能照常交税。市场和面包房不仅没有个税和增值税,我们还要补贴他们。这没道理。等贸易系统更新吧。
Unemployment people can pay taxes. However, market and bakery can't pay business tax and value-added tax.It dosen't make sense.Waiting subsequent update

I gonna be honest - I tricked a bit to be able to build more carefree, without using the creative mode. If you start a relationsship with the trading prince, you should be able to build the gambeling dice desk. I saved my game, set 200 coins, roll the dices and stop without saving if I do not win. If I win I save the game and keep on. It is cheating and it is a bit time consuming, but I got 4.000 coins that way and be able to relax now. Surely there will be better and other fair methods later to earn money.

I want a relationship wit the harvest princess and am utterly disappointed that they don't switch "careers".
