Farms
I love the game , love the cute style. Farms are easy to set up but once you get to commoners, it seems as if you need to place tons of farms to supply food - i have 8 (4 for veggies; 4 for grain) but still it is not enough - it feels a bit unbalanced (all are fully staffed, got 2 bakeries and 2 mills as well)
Other than that, loving the game so far

I only have 3 veg and 3 grain and my veg is over 1000 had to build more granaries just to keep up.

i only have one bakery and one mill. more than enough food for my very sizable Town .
i think i have 85 to 90 little peeps in total.

what seems to be the optimal size of each farm?

I think the key is to keep the population small for a second and get a backup of food going and THEN increase population. I was much more successful that way. I try to keep 55+ days of food.

Lacks the presence of fishing huts at the moment so that the farms do not take up much space.

I am finding this too. It shows food stores up to 8 days as well, but I still have people starving to death?

Also looking for this answer, I went with 36 this past run but it seems that not even halfway gets harvested with three workers. I'll play with it more, will try 24 next.

I also feel like one of the reason half my town is farms is that the requirements for pigsties (and the sheep building, once it's released) are *insanely* high. Town? Really? For a pig enclosure?

Or an ability to change a veg farm to animal as you discover the animals.

This needs more interest. I don't understand Togue's reply. Is Togue saying that a 36 "unit" farm only gets harvested by 50% with 3 workers? Did you find any more info? I'll keep looking.

I see now that it looks like the max field size for a farm is 40 units. If you look at the attachment tab on a farm it will tell you the actual field size out of 40...therefore I assume that three workers can harvest 40 units in a season.

The devs are working on balancing the farm issue so 40 plots will actually provide maximum output with 3 farmers.
But for now, about 20-30 plots seem to work best.

I think I read somewhere on here that the game is currently optimized for farms that have a 25 unit plot to harvest.

So now I make all farms that size, and wow, it does seem to make a difference. You do of course need enough grainaries that are placed right, too. (For instance I try to place wheat fields, grainiary and windmill together, that way production goes up - providing the fablings houses are close enough. Or bakery/grainary/windmill)

Remember though that a pigsty eats up a lot of wheat - four for one pork I think - and (thank you again Mochi) that only commoners can eat pork.
That means if you have a decent stock of pork (another good place to put a grainary is next to the pigsty) and fablings are still starving to death, double check so that your commoners shops are set to pork. They'll eat that and leave what is left of vegetables and bread for the peasants.

hello and thanks for supporting us early access! balancing the game is an ongoing task for us although we feel better about it than a month ago!

Mochi has got the gist about farms to people ratio! :) <3

One of the reasons too is that most people place at least 1 food generating item in each homestead, while Commoners have none. The Food producing item such as an apple tree, produce 1 food item a day (not in winter). Its not as good at fixing hunger but with constant production it really adds up and makes you need less farm food
