I was wondering does anyone have any tips or tricks for this?

Build a bunch of decorations and happiness buildings.

When you build peasant houses you have two attachments and a third free space in which you can put a cheap decoration like a tree, flower bed or bench (not the desirability attachment, but from the decorations tab), so I do that from the start and don't have to start from zero.

like wrote above and if possible put a "supermarket " with a noble inside ^^
And you may put some decorations on the roads which don't cut the roads like :
double chairs , Arch and another one that i dont remember ...

Its random ..
i was at contest #7 .. did not build anything new when new contest happened, was #1

Same goes for army .. i had 30 soldiers, didnt win. Had a fight, lost 20 soldiers, 10 survived, won as #1

Never used supermarket as other saying ..

There is button "eye" at the bottom side on right .. you can turn on DESIRABILITY .. probably good idea to something around industry area too .. I dont think it matters cuz in my first game i wont the contest and got the achievement with mixed housing and industry area where people were unhappy.
But who knows how they programmed it .. since i see it as random, you never know, a dwarf statue with clocks in the industry area looks nice so why the hell not

Its not random.

I've had a nice, regular growth throughout.

I went from last for beauty, to 5th, to 3rd, and now I am 1st every time.
Same for army strength, grown to be 1st every time.

My placements never went lower, only higher and higher as my realm improved.

I got a level 10 Hero, 36 soldiers and level 4 fortification level which is almost, but not quite, level 5.

As for my realm almost everywhere is purple 60-80 desirability, except for my two clumps of industry.

1st every time. Nothing random about it.
