When the trouble symbol shows up above a hovel typically it means it's either lost it's head of household and it needs to be reassigned, or the coal symbol will show up when it lacks coal. You can reassign head of household using the Manage Household dropdown in the homes UI panel.
It seems that every winter I get many houses with the "lacking coal" icon, where I have plenty of coal in storage, and the storages have two workers. Is there a reason why these workers aren't taking the coal to the houses? And, yes, the houses have active HoH.
The Head of the Household goes out to collect the coal iirc. Same as the food. So give it some time for them to go get it, depending on their distance from the stockpile.
Stockpile workers collect resources from various industries so that the labor there does not have to leave the workplace.
Proximity. The coal needs to be reasonably close to the houses that need it so it needs to be distributed to residential areas. If the coal is too far away it probably causes problems with getting it to the house in reasonable amounts of time, especially when they also need to collect food.
Is there an indicator to show the range of the buildings? So I know where I need to build new stockpiles? Or is that part of the "game play" ... Figuring that out?
Had a screenshot for an example but apparently Steam won't let me add it.
