How do I raise my available power?
In the demo I remember there being a generator that could be bought, and I can see in game that coal is something you can acquire, but how do I actually get these things? I've combed through the build menu and checked every location on the map, but I can't find anything.

they're in the "electricity" tab with the ceiling lights...at least they are when I start without the intro

I started a new game with the intro and it's not in there. So either this is a bug or they're unlocked through some unexplained means if you start with the intro.

If you start with the intro you need to actually run out of power to get them to show up. I just had it happen.

Ah, thank you.
That's not super intuitive as I was actively NOT trying to run out of power.

It wasn't great. Thankfully I had a bit of money and space to get the generator. If I hadn't I think the massive loan I'd have needed for a new floor would have probably been a game over.

Maybe at some point extra power can go in a basement that is only for the generator and doesn't cost a ton to unlock. Having to put it on one of the floors seems odd to me.

To be fair though I have worked at a newspaper and the press is far too heavy to be on anything but the ground floor, so there's a bit of suspension of disbelief in a game like this.

I agree that it would be cool to be able to build one or two stories underground just put things like generators or some of the utility stations.

I would personally prefer they do away with the power limitations and just track devices you have and generate an electric bill every month. It's a waste of space and costly to have to install a generator, just because a light or something puts me over some arbitrary limit. Even in the 1930s electricity was metered and bills based on consumption could be sent to consumers.

My main issue with the generator is it double your power... and you don't really need that much. I'd like something more progressive. The first 50 are free but the next 50 are heavy on your expenses....

We could have small generators consuming coal in the basement to power the entire building (so you would actually have to get some from the start)
