News Tower

Bug (or at least, inconsistent behaviour)
If I understand correctly, the deadline to print is 23:59 Sunday. After running the presses and selecting quests for the next week, the time is 00:00 Monday. So far, so good.

I used to think the rule was that items that are completed but not printed at 23:59 pick up an Old News tag, and incomplete items don't. But this is not technically correct. What happens is that items that are completed but not printed by 00:00 Monday pick up the Old News tag. The difference is subtle, but it matters because items continue to progress while the printing press animation is happening.

This means that items that are incomplete at the deadline, but close enough that they complete while the press is running, will become Old News. For example, in my current game I had a story that the game's tooltip said would complete Monday at 05:27, but it completed by the time the animation completed and already had the Old News tag when selecting quests for the next week (i.e., at 00:00 Monday).

This appears like a bug, or at least inconsistent behaviour because in theory only 1 in-game minute passes during printing, but the animation takes enough time that tasks can progress by several hours. This leads to unexpected Old News tags which feel unfair.

I can think of a couple of ways this could be fixed. One would be to not allow anything else to progress while the printing press animation is happening. Another would be to apply Old News tags to appropriate items at the time the player starts the printing press, instead of at the start of Monday.

I also have observed this behaviour. It's easy to work around, just make sure your assemblers aren't close to completing a task before you pull the lever.

Ninety percent sure you will see this happen no matter what time Sunday you run the machine, provided the assembler completes the story during the animation, because the game timeskips you to Monday morning.

The whole Sunday to Monday transition is a bit odd. I agree it would not be the worst thing in the world if the jobs were not running in the background of that animation

Yes you are correct.
This is unintended and we added this to our Trello to-do list.

Though i must say it not high in prio for us atm.
Will happen at some point. Thanks for pointing it out
