Cartographer

I had unlocked the cartographer some turns back. I had an article that required it so I built the desk and hired the worker. The article went no further and the icon turned red...like I am missing something. There is no indication that there is a dependency. Can someone explain how cartography works in the game?

It's still under construction, but my guide has some info on how adding graphics works. You need a cartography desk, Repro Camera, and Chemical Engraver to make maps, do you have those and it's still not working?

I took a second stab at it. There needs to be a separate category for the maps, pictures, and engravings (similar to printing) so that the player understands that you need all of it, not just one desk. Even the not so helpful popup really tells you that you can't have cartographers, or illustrators before you have photography.

I agree, it's not very informative in build mode.
In the tutorial mode I think it tells you to place the extra items (chemical engraver etc.), but it's easy to accidentally miss/skip those hints, and if you say "no" to the introduction I don't think you get that info.
