Returnal PC Sales to date under 16k. Over priced by Sony. Even at 40% off.
If you add up peak concurrent players for every month on PC since Returnal launched. Make a huge illogical leap that every single one of those players were unique players and never played the game again even a month later to INFLATE the amount of players who bought the game, as well as assuming no one refunded the game even though they never played it again, you'd still have less than 16k players.

Now let me try giving them the biggest number you possibly could.

Count how many days since Returnal launched, as of this post its 1233. Now times 1233 by the average player count of 311 since launch. That brings you to 383,463 players assuming no one ever played the game a second time, and no one ever refunded the game.

That's obviously not going to be the case. You aren't going to have that many people play a game once and not refund it. If you took the difference between 16k, and 383,463 you'd get something like 183,731. Even this number feels way, way too high for only an average of 311 people to be online in a game.

Sadly I think the more accurate number, considering the poor player count which is on average lower than concord until Sony decided to kill it, is probably closer to the 16k number.

ok, so what do you actually conclude from all this? PC releases are barely marketed and i suspect the reason is that they already concluded this was going to be lower sales than the original release. So why waste revenue on a marketing plan which is going to have a minimum cost to be effective and will have a lesser impact compared to the first release.

Instead they just throw it out there expecting to cover the cost of the port and then some additional revenue, if they are lucky way more.
LeeRoyBrown Sep 14, 2024 @ 1:49am
I doubt they have even covered the cost of the port at this point. Also, for example, I have 2 mates interested in the game, none of us want to pay over $30 for a game that came out in 2020, and can be beaten in 10-20 hours tops. I know some people take longer but it only took me 15 hours on PS5. It's a very short game and when I only expect to get a few dozen hours at most in co-op, and that's if we don't get bored earlier, it's an insanely hard sell at $94AU. They are pricing the game like it came out yesterday, when it is in fact years old. They can either have $60 from me and a mate, or have nothing. Some money, is better than no money.

Well it's also a broken game, so who cares. VRAM leaks etc.

Yeah I've heard about this one. Why did they never fix it? Lazy.

I saw the main character's ugly ass face and was insulted that they wanted ANY money.

Enter exhibits A-D:

As you can see in exhibit A, a Youtuber uploaded their latest attempt to reach 1 billion points in Tower of Sisyphus 9 days ago. You can see that they occupy 5th place out of around 9,900 on the Playstation leaderboards. You can also see from exhibits B and C that on the PC Tower of Sisyphus leaderboard, a different name occupies 5th place and that the total number of scores is around 66,500. You can also see from exhibit D that 12 days ago the total scores in Tower of Sisyphus on PC were around 65,200.

Conclusion: The leaderboards for Playstation and PC are kept separate. We can also reasonably assume that Returnal sold around 9,900 copies on Playstation and 66,500 on PC. We can also see that during the Playstaion publisher sale on Steam, Returnal sold around 1,300 copies.

The main motive for doing sales is because you believe you would ultimately make more money. That's for the owners to figure out. If I today just found out about Returnal, bought it at full price, and spent as much time playing it as I already have, I would feel that I had gotten my money's worth. The game is that good to me.

I own it on PS5, I know the game is good, however I paid $124 on PS5 and I know it's not worth that much. It's a very, very short game with little to no replay value. The reasons I want to replay it, is co-op and it's been a while. I wouldnt touch the tower of sissypuss or even play it solo. I'm only interest in maybe getting 10-20 hours out of co-op. The game should be about $30 tops maybe $15 sale.

65k people is absolutely dire. That's a disaster. If it was GaaS game, Sony would have killed it, and sacked the entire studio. I assume not everyone touched the tower of sissypuss because it's not as engaging as the main campaign. Even still people pay $94 they are going to check out all the content mostly so I'm guessing most people would try it at least once... maybe?

65k is a disaster. If media actually did any research. It would be news worthy. If anyone actually cared about this franchise anymore.

Estimated sales on Steam are around 200 thousand copies.
mckracken Sep 28, 2024 @ 2:19pm
yeah so steam is full of casuals that dont appreciate the finer things like Returnal?..What else is new?

I mean have you looked at the sales of freaking PALWORLD?
Would you believe it if i told you that this game has sold more than Returnal?
I blame Tik Tok and social media for the brain rot.......LOL

Why does it matter? You're so hoping to see another concord as are all the Tighty Righties. It's useless info. I bought the game and I'm enjoying it, difficult as it may be. Will I finish it? I don't know. Maybe. The game is a challenge that's for sure.

I believe that's Brienne of Tarth (or the resemblance). So that explains the pop culture reference to who it is that is doing all of the fighting.

What you just said in reference to Concord is self projecting and outside of being bait couldn't be described as a rational thought.

No one in here has stated their political stance nor from what I can tell has anyone declared they are very specifically American. Sounds like you need to get off social media.

Before you comment next time. Press control+F do some basic research. You might find multiple people in here and other similar subjects on this board own the game on PS5 and don't "think" the game is over price but full well know it's overpriced. If you don't think conversation about the game is interesting. Why are you on the discussion boards for the game, the place to talk about the game and if don't find the subject interesting, why are you in here asking why others are talking about something they find interesting enough to comment on. You don't even have to be here, but here you are.

Returnal sucks. It has a good game play concept. But handicapped by many problems. the environments lack the passion , the animations are lazy the music is boring. the main character is uninspiring and ugly to be honest. the story is not interesting. i think we return to state this because of what it could have been. like so many games today .
OH did I mention the terrible hardware support. It lags between cpu and gpu . and the stupid occlusion culling does not work . it makes more stutter than it solves.

Just get the game cheaper if you must on CDKeys. or some key site. dont pay full price. : (

The memory leak isn't amazing.

It might be the best game in the world but if it starts loading worse textures than n64 after a few hours - since they updated it, it's kinda pointless.

the best game is Titan Fall 2. imo. And Star Citizen is pretty good even with all its problems.
Frost Punk 1, and ixion also okay.
Blood-hunt free to play battle royal, and Arksync.

anyway none of this important.
