PC vs Ps5 Pro
I can't believe I am saying this, but I now prefer the Pro version compared to this. It's butter smooth, with actually less pop in. The sloppy RT in the PC version doesn't make the stuttering and pop in ok

Tons of asset pop in when running through the maps. And poor quality RT, like the reflections.

you can try modding the engine.ini file to get around the pop in on PC. Traversal stutter is also in the PS5 version. There is also mod for PC that improve the RT further. Overally I still prefer PC version in 21:9, 4K 100+ fps.

I can do this without downloading mods? I want to push draw distance back as far as possible, as well as better RT.

I hate the inconsistent performance on PC, I'm considering the PS5 Pro after the new update. Especially after hearing the news of the Series X going up in price. It's only a matter of time before the Pro gets a price increase as well.

In my experience the Pro is the best place to play Returnal right now, all things considered. I sunk 1.5 hours in last night

Literally never experienced pop ins.
Also RT is based on your resolution so if you play at 1080p and you use DLSS ofc it will look "sloppy".
I play 1440p at native resolution and RT looks amazing.
Watch DF video about PC version of Returnal,
I think its either RTAO or Shadows that cause grass pop in, and all you need to do is to just lower setting to High.

try adding these lines to the engine.ini, not verified though, I copied them from dragon quest which is also UE4 title.

I think PC epic = PS5 setting anyway IRC from DF analysis in terms of pop in, you are not getting better experience on PS5 pro which all it got was a res bump. Able to play this game in 21:9 and higher fps than 60 is a god sent, also high image clarity than PS5 pro with DLAA or even DLSS4 at quality setting.

will changing those settings in the file disrupt the game in steam?

yes, but those are higher than normal epic setting I think. I played it for a little, don't notice as much pop up. Didn't get to check out area with long draw distance given the nature of the game is designed (randomized)

He isn't wrong and the people that always claim "works fine for me" haven't been to their optometrist in like 10 years if they can't see the issues this game has. It has huge sections discussing it on PCGamingWIKI.

What are your PC specs?

I just tried the adding those lines in the engine.ini file myself, it has been awhile since I play the game but I vaguely remember vegetation pop in were an issue. So far those parameter might have improved that

no visible pop in as I walk across the segment of the map from one end to another.

Interesting. Did you try a with and without in the same part of the map?
