Also it can be useful, especially if you suck at dodging stuff or like getting hit or do a pointless melee build. With high protection that red health bar isn't that dangerous.
But yeah after beating all the bosses, all those low integrity buffs become slightly pointless, but still more valuable than a melee artifact, besides the one that unlocks you orange doors.
The further you get in the game, the easier the bosses become, in terms you not getting hit by anything they do and you just sitting in one spot and dishing out damage, that is if you are level and weapon appropriate.
Elite enemies with orange health bars are way more dangerous.

Well, I guess if this game catered for kids then it probably should have had a difficulty slider...
And yes the game is easy. And that is not the point.
The point is that you don't own the game, on steam at least.
And you totally ignored that part.
