Yes but when you do this you also lose vibration in the controller.
I don't understand what are you saying?
Vibration and sound are separate things. Your OS might have by default switch to gamepad as default sound device once plugged in. Just change sound device to w/e you use, HDMI/PC card etc.
--Edit.
Ok i think i see what you are saying. Game is doing some kind of forceful sound redirect to gamepad. I didnt attempt to play with gamepad but now that i have i see that happening. Even with sound disabled on gamepad and using external sound card, sound on headphones is muffled and some sounds are going to my gamepad lol. Once i turned off gamepad sound on headphones returned in full.
I dont think this is fixable on user side. Only temporal solution i can think of is to plug in headphones to gamepad and use that as direct sound
So it is coming through my headphones but specific audio effects are coming through the Dualsense controller, this only started happening after the last patch not sure why and there doesn't seem to be an option to turn it off, and for the dualsense haptics to work you need the speaker enabled as it uses audio waves to calculate the haptics
Edit: So far I've downloaded the latest firmware for the DualSense5 controller with Sony's FWUpdateInstaller app. I've switched the audio to stereo or 5.1 so i see the option for controller audio volume in the audio settings. I've made sure PlayStation controller support is selected in Steam settings and Steam confirms it recognizes it as a PlayStation 5 controller. Still I get zero audio coming out of the controller.
Update: Controller audio and adaptive triggers are now working for me like the PS5. I had to disable steam input in the steam controller settings for Returnal.
That counts for all Sony games on Steam.
First, like said earlier manage your sound device right.
After that, the "tricky" thing is to have right native dualsense support. For that you disable steam input (right click the game on steam and you will find it i'm sure.)
Then you have all the needed options in-game, not hidden at all.
But, MOST OF ALL, WHY YOU GUYS USING HEADPHONE AND DON'T SELECT AURO 3D ?
This mode is fk' amazing and disable all sounds from gamepad... You idiots! Ahah
If you'r on speakers ok, fallow instructions
I cant even get the game to play audio through the headset jack on the controller so
Everything works. 100% haptic, vibrations and sound is all going through main speaker/headphones
1. You need to disable Steam input in Steam and have Dualsense wired
2. Go to game settings AUDIO
3. In AUDIO OUTPUT change it to Resonance Audio
You can then notice that Controller speaker volume bar will disappear :)
You can thank me later :)
Well, except you're wrong. You can use any of those audio options, I use the Aura 3D or whatever it is.
What actually happened is when you selected a different audio option, the game reconfigured itself to use your system-wide default audio output, which is your speakers/headphones.
The issue happens, typically, when you hotplug the controller and haven't previously told Windows to avoid using the controller as the default sound device
