Any other similar games?
Love this game, especially the addictiveness of the DLC tower. Any similar games? Ideally with similar production values.

AAA Rougelites like this one, nope. This is the highest quality game with this combination of genres.
2nd best would be Risk of Rain 2, just without a story.

Then come all the rest that ain't anymore 3rd person shooters.

There is a third person soulslike Mortal Shell that has an optional rougelite mode, so that would be the second game in terms of similar production value.

Let it Die is also an option, also it's free, pretty high production, soulslike melee/guns pretty much rougelite.

Then you get into the area of side scrolling platformer rougelites/likes that also go sometimes into soulslikes.

You could also make your own soulslike with mods in Elden Ring for example, each time you die enemies change, or change them whenever you want, randomize loot, maybe get even some diablo loot mod to make drops more interesting.

But as close to this in terms of gameplay, Risk of Rain 2.

Loads of games use also the rougelite and rougelike interchangeably, even though the former has meta progression, but the latter doesn't, latter is pretty much if you would play on hardcore mode that deletes your save file. But yeah on steam the tags are usergenerated and most don't know the difference.

Aside from Risk o Rain 2 I would say Remnant from the ashes. It has a lot of permanent progression which makes it very rogueLITE but levels and events are reandomised every run. You also won't be able to see everythign after one run so it has a lot of replay value.

Remnant 2 is coming soon but the first one is also great.

Remnant I wouldn't suggest because it ain't rougelite/like, it's just a soulslike, but yeah the world can be randomized unlike soulsgames. It's barely a rougelite, because just the random worlds, but you keep all progress like in any other soulslike game.
Mortal Shell for example has two different game modes, base variant being what makes it a soulslike, and then you have the "hardcore" mode with random modifiers you can gain, just useful for gaining extra item usage info like in Returnal.

RougeLite would be a game that has you starting over, but you don't start from 0.

That's why I said it's very lite. If you are seriously considering to play remnant you will be redoing zones but yes, you keep all you have unlocked on your character.

Sure, it's not that rogue and it is closer to soulslike but well, OP can make up his own mind.

At least it has guns, Mortal Shell has a rogue mode but you are stuck with close quarters. Also Mortal Shell has enemy pop in not fixed since release on Steam which is mind boggling because it is a critical bug.

Never knew about that pop in, didn't encounter it myself. But I didn't play much beyond the first area, only accomplishment I have is beating the tutorial boss and think I fought against the merged twins. Game is uber hard, but the rougelite mode seemed fun.

IDK i think the remnant franchise is a perfect suggestion here, even though it is more RPG focused rather than roguelike. The loot isn't quite as random but the areas and gameplay can be. Plus I think both games come from a similar perspective of learning and overcoming the current lethal roadblock. The roguelike semantics are hard to justify even in Returnal itself, since you don't have to refight bosses and the permanent progression is more than average.

If OP really wants randomized gear and items though instead of a soulslike build, Risk of Rain 2 is the way to go.

You can also check this one out, rougelite. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1307660/Ravenbound/

Thanks for the suggestions all. I will look into them. Risk of Rain did seem a bit too trippy for me graphics wise, it probably is a brilliant game though.

I know it's not a roguelike/roguelite but [Lost Planet 2] was always the game I compared Returnal with for myself. It's a little dated but perhaps my wild suggestion can be of some help.

Besides being 3rd person and using guns, what are the similarities for you? I've played Lost Planet 1 and 3, don't have region access on steam to Lost Planet 2.
Might as well suggest any 3rd person shooter where you fight against aliens.

Risk of Rain 2 definitely a brilliant game I've put many hours into it, easily one of my favorites. Crab Champions is also quite good but I find it has some balance issues personally.

Risk of Rain 2 is mechanically and mathematically (stats and item interaction) a masterpiece... but it nowhere hits the vibe of Returnal. There's no story and only snippets of data log lore and very much centered around gameplay which is where it excels.

Ah yeah, forgot about that, it has similar style gameplay and vibe. Plus it runs like butter, but only with dlss quality enabled, but the performance gain is epic and the visual quality is like uber crisp. It's like the game was made in mind with DLSS or just that dlss file was specifically tuned for that game, which is technically a bad thing compared to just optimizing the game, but that means they don't have to downgrade the game visuals, sad for non dlss users, also the DLSS they use has no ghosting issues (mind not using that dlss file in other games, won't work properly, weird graphic glitches as a result).

I think Risk of Rain 2 is the closest to Returnal, as some people already mentioned.

Beyond that, I recommend the following games below, even though the games are first person shooters but they come really close to Returnal in terms of being Action-Rogue-lites.
