Game crashes if paused(i.e hit escape and left in the menu screen)

Anyone else noticed this behavior? Both times I've hit escape to pause my run and left my PC for around 5-10 minutes when I get back the game is closed with no error messages. Seems different from the fatal error crashes as again, there is no error message.

i've had the same thing happen, don't know how to fix it tho or if there's a specific cause. i checked if having the game window focused makes any difference, as opposed to for example alt-tabbing to a browser window, but it crashes either way.
