Just don't panic during fights and keep chill, you'll be flying through the game, try to explore as much as you can to upgrade yourself. I was the same at first was just impatient trying to rush through it but then took my time and was having so much fun.
U do seem to love everything else about the game, hope u stick around and don't give up.
1. Keep Moving
2. Keep Dodging
3. Prioritise weapons you like over the level of the gun. You will find it easier using a lower level gun that suits your play style over a weapon that doesn't.
4. Save Obolites to buy upgrades you need, don't just buy everything there is.
5. Unlock the Astronaut upgrade from the house, it gives you an extra life when you get it.
6. Remember when you die, you are still upgrading and unlocking traits on weapons.
So it takes time to get to know it.. some of us are better in rouge likes then other.. thats another thing.
But yeah if you dont pay attention to the game and its mechanics.. the game will punish you.
Whenever I think I can't do it I think back of all the MMOs where I went into a raid boss for the first time and literally got one-shotted the moment I walked in and I thought: "I'll never be able to do this". Few months later: doing that raid boss every day and helping carrying newbees. :) That's why I know I can do it, but it will take time (esp. for an old geezer like me since I don't have the same reflexes as the younglings ;)) to learn and perfect the run.
The one thing I learned from this game is how modern games have spoiled us. ;)
You keep the upgrades on your weapons and the ability to go under water, move in lava etc.
And half through the game, you wont start all over, but from that new location.
And bosses only have to be killed once and you unlock short-cuts.
Keep playing. You will get better at the game and unlock more and more.
every run has something new as well, like new 20th century house sequences, more data logs progressing the story of selene and her psyche, translating the language in the tablets, etc. you also get better as a player and more familiar with the different artifacts and mechanics so sections become easier and you actually want to replay areas to level up before fighting a boss you were stuck on.
and tbh i actually enjoy replaying a section, because the game is just plain fun to play. it also adds a tension when you do get to the boss room knowing you might end your run. it's good stuff.
See I never liked this guy. I've had it worked like absolutely magic and then other times where it felt like it couldn't kill a root.
Hollowseeker on the other hand *chef's kiss*.
