make sure the game exe or steam is not running as admin, it happened same for me when enabled for whatever reason.

I set my game EXE to run in compatibility mode win 8 and set override dpi to system enhanced with no admin, i set graphics to high and my nvidia control panel is set to max fps cap 120 with shader cache size 5G and Open GDI compatibility set to prefer compatible and vulkan/Opengl present method set to prefer layered dxgi swapchain. low latency mode off, and leave vsync on in game settings. Disabled depth of field.

I am on win 10 and recently deleted all my shader cache files for Nvidia and Directx.

it runs fine for me. you can also try force DX11 in steam launch options and see if that works.

Others said they needed some VP9 codec from windows store but I did not download any windows apps at all.

I am also on Nvidia 527.56 driver version.

Tried all of that. Also tried the -NOSOUND option and a complete reinstall.

Game simply refuses to launch, doesn't even appear in the task manager when I click play.

Same here, several days trying every stuff people commented in every thread regarding this, and of course nothing worked for me neither, really disapointted

I'm having an issue where it does this but then the game literally just crashes my entire PC (blue screen)... It kind of worked for like a day after I renamed the .exe file for the epic game store launcher to .ex but when I restarted my PC and tried playing the next day, same thing happened. I downloaded the latest NVIDIA driver update (528.49) so I dunno if that has anything to do with it, but it's super annoying.

Figure a lot more people would be having problems if it's related to an NVIDIA driver that is current.
edit: Just tried renaming EpicGamesLauncher.exe, no effect.

It's not you rig don't worry, i have the same problem.
Now for playing the game, i download the piracy version and it's work. (I tested for 4 hours without crash)
For now, i sorry to tell you the fix it's only WAIT.
When the devs patch the game, finally maybe we can play the game.

i know your prob , i have similar prob,
when my game want to start, the first video is black... if i have sound of raining i can push spacebar and 50% of time i can play...
if i die, the black screen is here ... and the game is bug, spacebar button is KO, the game is block.
ctrl alt sup, delete task and restart...
but game 50% of time dont launch, or launch and make the same loop (black screen ...)

i try admin, complete reinstall, change DD, compatibility mode ... update nvidia...

i don't understand...

try to kick the epic task, and relaunch the game from steam, for me i can launch but ... but i crash on vid
