How does dynamic res work?
It seems like if I on turn on dynamic resolution that becomes my max resolution. I would ideally like it to kick on when FPS goes below 80.

The DRS follows the "maximum FPS" setting. Yes, even when vsync is on. So if you still want above-80fps, but want it to only kick in when below 80, set it 80, and turn on vsync.

Digital Foundry IIRC said that DRS doesn't work correctly with Vsync on at the moment but instead keeps the resolution throughout at only 50%.

I've not had a chance to watch their video yet. I am using DLSS which gets me about 70-80 FPS with a 3070Ti.

DF missed the fact that it follows the maximum FPS setting. Test it out yourself and you'll see. When I set the minimum res to 25%, and put the max fps to 60 with vsync on, it kept my fps above 60. When I set it to 80 with vsync on, it kept it above 80.

why not just use DLSS instead? DLSS on performance mode looks much better than what dynamic resolution looks like when it dips. also if your card doesnt have DLSS you can use the FSR 2.1 mod which replaces the dlss, since the FSR in this game is only FSR 1 for some reason (which looks terrible)

Not everyone has an RTX card. And not everyone wants to mod their game just to make it work the way it should.
Dynamic Res is pretty screwed up in this game. It doesn't work if you enable vsync in game, or cap the framerate through any third party program.

It literally only works if either let the game tear like crazy, or if you have a variable sync monitor.

Hopefully we hear something from the devs on this

Again. It works with vsync on. Just set the max fps before turning on vsync.

Are you sure? Last time I tried it, I remeber it snapping back down to the "minimum resolution" if you enable vsync

I have a 144Hz monitor. When I set the max fps to 60, then turn vsync on, it keeps my fps near and above 60. When I set the max fps to 80, then turn vsync on, it keeps my fps near and above 80.

okay have fun with your ugly dynamic resolution lol

That just sounds like a frame cap. Do you notice a difference in resolution when you cap at 60 vs 80?

I... don't use it? I was answering the original poster's question.

Yes. They didn't "cap" at 60 and 80, it dynamically stayed above them, like around 65/85.

I found setting my resolution to 4k and then just doing the internal resolution scaling to 70% looked just as good as if I was using DLSS but performance was about 10-20 fps better.
