In my experience they'll typically drop 2 or 3 heals along with the rest of the loot, which is usually enough to ensure I come out with a net gain health wise, the only loss being adrenaline level if I take a hit.
If your ether is already capped out at 30 though it's probably better to just avoid the risk and salvage instead.
I would salvage but Jesus H. Bleepin' Christ is the ether cost of 3 annoying when doing so in the Overgrown Forest area. I don't have much luck finding loads of ether soooo yeah...
