Awful framerate drops and fatal crashes
Playing on a ryzen 9 5900x and an RTX 2070, Framerate is stable enough until something random happens which does not seem to be replicateable but the game will stutter to as low as 5fps. Only played for three hours and already had two fatal crashes too... I really was looking forward to this game but its barely playable on pc. Any fixes?

The game was made with a 60 fps lock in mind, any additional frame over that costs a lot of CPU resources, it scales poorly in that regard. On the bright side, the game can be played at 60 fps native 4K max settings with zero stuttering on PC (awaiting ray-tracing performance fix though) with your GPU barely breaking a sweat.

so locking the game to 60fps will fix any stuttering issues? That seems kinda odd but willing to give it a try if that fixes it. Don't see why they would let you play at higher framerates if it absolutely bombs your expirience.

After my 6 hours up to now I've had 1 fatal crash, at about the 4 hour mark, other than that it's frequent stuttering, and that's at 1440p on an RTX 3070Ti, at high with particles and fog at low
Stutters aren’t caused by GPU.
It’s usually because of CPU but can also be due to RAM and nvme/ssd.

Depends of your CPU. The faster the CPU the smaller the stutter spikes. The smaller the spikes the higher the framerate you can have without noticeable stutters.

I have a ryzen 9 5900x but the game still stutters like crazy. Also got 32gb ram so part of me kind of doubts neither my cpu nor the ram is the problem.

This is so far from the truth it hurts.

Please don't spread misinformation. Stuttering can happen for a multitude of reasons. One of them (and most common) being frame time inconsistencies.

Another one is texture streaming issues - which again is fully handled by GPU.

This game barely touches the CPU, it's incredibly GPU bound. If you're not bottlenecked by your CPU, your benchmark will so 99-100% usage on GPU with barely a fraction being used on CPU, like 2-3% usage.

The issue here is UE4. It's an old engine. The one being used here is the main UE4 branch, and not the one forked over at Nvidia which contains a lot more optimisations which help with such stuttering and include additional tools.

Check if your RAM working OK with xmp(docp) on.

My 3600Mhz RAM with
wrong settings: https://ibb.co/hyhr5jk
correct settings: https://ibb.co/8bh5vKg

Also according to Digital Foundry the game is very CPU demanding and even top end CPUs struggle to keep up at anything higher than 60fps.

Digital Foundry tested different CPUs and how it affected frame time and stutters. You may disagree with that. I believe they are correct.
