To the people blindly complaining about Epic Online Services…
Epic Online Services (EOS) is not the same as the Epic Games Store (EGS). You can “hurrr durrr Epic bad” as much as you want, but at least understand what it is…

EOS a suite of development and platform services to enable developers to easily add cross-platform achievements, leaderboards, player and title level storage, voice chat and lobbies to their games.

Like it or not, Steamworks is only available on PC… so if game developers want to have cross-platform capabilities in their games, they either have to build their own suite of services (which is super costly time and money wise to implement, time that could be used to develop the game instead; requires constant maintenance; and can shut down at any moment), or use an existing suite.

You are not even required to sell your game on EGS to use EOS.

I have no interest in the subject matter that you are talking about... So I have no agenda. Why would you post thoughts/ideas to the masses by insulting the very people you are trying to communicate with?

TL;DR: If even the curator "Epic Games Sucks" only puts usage of EOS up as "informational", it's really no big deal.

You could start to avoid any Unreal Engine game by that logic.

And yeah, I totally dislike Epic as a company, I find their store horrible to use and I absolutely loathe their exclusivity shtick.

I think they meant that "hurr durr" part.

What matters to me is whether telemetry data ends up at Epic or not. I just don't trust them and dislike Tim Sweeney so much that I don't want to support their online products in any way. Has anyone tried blocking the EOS servers as described in https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2594056744 to see if singleplayer still works?

So, are you are saying that there are some companies which are OK to have your data, but not epic?

I mean, most modern games collect some data (at least mp ones), there are usually bunch of agreements you have to accept before even entering the main menu.
I look at my library and only handful of valve games allow to show what data they collect. Does this mean, that apex doesn't collect any data? Or that rs2: vietnam doesn't collect any data, or rocket league, or risk of rain 2 or halo mcc?

It's not even the less intrusive version, but the one with an overlay. Yikes. Either way, a ticking time-bomb, Sweeney left PC gaming before and missed the boat while Valve made all the right moves. What happens to EOS-infested games when he buggers off again and turns off his servers? Chances are high it'll happen, he doesn't care, unlike Gaben.

Also about privacy, Sweeney sold his soul to the CCP, let's guess where the data is going. That others collect info isn't great either but I trust certain ppl more than others, whataboutisms ignore nuances.

The first iteration of EOS has been around longer than Steam.. "TiCkiNg TiMeBoMb".
Also, Gaben can't even count to 3. He doesn't care.

Nobody cares, not gabeN (he isn't even the one making decisions, more of a mascot) not Sweeney, not Spencer, definitely none of actiblizzard goons and no one from ea for sure.
We are talking about corporations, they are not our friends. Even GoG, which is supposedly the "consumer friendly own what you pay for" type company, made a survey last year indicating that they are willing to try out a subscription model. And that doesn't click with drm free model at all.

I'm starting to think you're defending this too hard.

Also CITATION NEEDED for your claims about the age of EOS.
