A true feeling of progression would be artifacts you get permanently, not just "hey now they're random drops." You start from zero every time other than weapon upgrades as far as I can tell. I think the problem is the runs are so long you need to feel more like they're worth it.
Anyway, maybe it gets better but it's like a TV show... if you don't like episode one or maybe two, then you're not gonna keep watching. I've got three hours in the game and I'm not having fun at all. Is what it is.
The game is a blast to play
I guess Roguelikes are not for you. They are all like this. You push further, ulock new items that can be found in subsequent runs, new weps and you try again.
I'm not seeing the problem. Games 30 second loop is pretty enjoyable.
Pretty much, yes the runs are long, but there is an emphasis on exploration, you really should've researched more on the game before purchasing it, imo game is amazing, just beat biome 3 and holy hell its incredible, gameplay is highly addictive once you start figuring out how the gears and equipment work, deciding where to explore, what to pick up, its great. I also have a soft spot for the movie prometheus so this game's world was right up my alley.
Hope u stick around a bit longer, I don't know if u can get a refund after playing 3 hrs.
What? How?
I like plenty of roguelikes. Rogue Legacy was a blast for example, as is Dead Cells. The problem here, again, is that the time invested does not feel rewarding. I'm glad you disagree, enjoy the game! I unfortunately am not.
shortcuts to the next biome open up, you just gotta find it.
This is the same reason why many people like these kind of games. Not gonna make everyone happy.
Personally I am more interested in progression within the game per run, with the main progression of the game being our own skill as we learn it. If they just gave us permanent artifacts it would irrevocably change how the game is balanced, either too hard initially, or too easy later on. Meta progression between runs (which this game still has in many ways anyway..) can only go so far. Progression within each run is what actually gives variety to the gameplay endlessly and is part of what makes roguelikes roguelikes.
Oh absolutely, and I wish them well! It's just not for me.
Rogue likes have at most metroidvania style upgrades like the grappel hook and laser sword, but no other permanent-carry-over-between-runs character upgrades besides unlocking other items like the binding of isaac.
The whole rogue genre has it's meaning muddled over time but this game was advertised as Rogue-like.
