Game will not fully exit

Steam is stuck thinking Returnal is still running when I exit. There are no Returnal processes that I can find and I just have to exit steam entirely to get it to stop thinking I'm in game. Anyone else running into this and have any idea what the solution might be?

Some games do that. It will say it is still running for a moment after closing it. Longest I've seen this is maybe 30 seconds.

Well in my case I didn't notice, got up, ate dinner, did the dishes, then came back to see that Steam still thought I was in game.

Give it five minutes to shut down. I use Process Lasso to check what processes are running and it showed 2 for Returnal. One was the launcher the other the main game. The main game still had a big chunk of memory reserved of about 6 Gb when I checked after closing the game to release before it would finish closing.

Me pasa lo mismo. La evidencia indica que no es una cuestión de esperar. El juego no se termina de cerrar, aunque le des al "detener" de steam. En el administrador de tareas no se encuentra el proceso tampoco. Es muy extraño, posiblemente es un fallo.

OKAY I'VE JUST FOUND A SOLUTION, IF ANYONE IS READING THIS:

Look for epic game services in task manager, KILL the task.

Should of thought of that solution. Probably EGS phoning home with error reports on a loop so it does not shut down.
