Does this have REAL Dolby Atmos height channel support?
Most games that claim Dolby Atmos really only support "Dolby Atmos for headphones", which is just fake virtualization to simulate surround sound with stereo headphones. Does anyone know if this supports actual home theater Dolby Atmos with height channels, like 5.2.4? I've only found a very small handful of games that support real height channels, like Borderlands 3 and Cyberpunk.

It already did the "fake Atmos" you describe without that label on the PS5 - I don't have an Atmos setup so I'm not sure how I'd confirm it but given how advanced the sound was even on PS5 I'd be very surprised if it didnt
It says "You are using a Dolby Atmos system" when i select Dolby Atmos in audio - doesn't say anything about headphones. But i have no idea how to check if it is actually putting out discrete height channels sorry
it has several other settings, 3 of which specifically mention headphones . . . so it's probably actual Atmos is my guess

ah, thanks for checking! I'm reading an article now that says the PC audio options are "stereo", 5.1, 7.1, Dolby Atmos, Auro 3D (for headphones), and Resonance Audio (for headphones), so this is really encouraging. Article also says what you said when selecting the Atmos option. My AV receiver will tell me instantly if it sees an Atmos signal from the PC or at least 5.1.4 decoded PCM signals.....I just want my height channels to produce sound when there's a sound source above me :)

Not sure if it's real Atmos or not but the audio in general is some of the best I've ever heard in a game.

Minor addition to the conversation - with my Win sound setting set to stereo, but game audio set to Dolby Atmos my soundbar system receives the usual LPCM signal over the HDMI eARC connection via my LG C2. Of course, with Dolby Atmos selected for the windows sound device, and the game set to Dolby Atmos it's receiving an Atmos signal. Heh, though that's always the case when Windows is set to Atmos regardless of the source material.

I am, however, at least getting surround audio from my rear speakers. I've noticed that when Atmos is elected at the system level, but the source material is stereo (and not at least 5.1) the soundbar system's surround emulation doesn't kick in at all... so we're at least getting 5.1 from the Dolby Atmos game setting. I thought I heard the upfiring speakers kicking in, but that's always a bit of a challenge to determine without a fixed scene that's known to use them.

try the benchmark?

@Wronskian I'm very similar, PC running to LG CX via HDMI2.1 on RTX3090, then running eARC to Atmos capable receiver and 5.2.4 physical speaker setup. The only time I actually see "Atmos" being decoded on the AVR when on PC (always does it with Netflix, etc.) is when I use an official Dobly Atmos test clip on the PC. When setting Windows sound to Dolby Atmos (same as when playing test clip) and I play games, I don't see "Atmos" on the decoder, but see multichannel input (probably LPCM) BUT I do see info on the height channels AND hear it correctly for games like Borderlands 3 and Cyberpunk, but not for the majority of other games that claim Atmos because they're only support Atmos for headphones and don't disclose the difference.

Yes, it has real Dolby Atmos support. I have Atmos headphones and it sounds amazing.

I'm not asking about headphone support, I'm trying to find out if it supports full direct speaker object oriented Atmos on PC.....5.2.4, 5 normal surround speakers, 1/2 subwoofers, and 2/4 ceiling mounted elevation "Atmos" speakers. The vast majority of games claiming Atmos only support the headphone virtualization on 2 speakers even on PS5 and I have one of those as well, but I'd rather play most games on PC unless a PS5 exclusive.

The PlayStation 5 does not support Dolby Atmos for games. It will support 5.1 and possibly 7.1 (can’t remember). Sony seems to refuse to pay licensing fees for Atmos and push headsets and stereo with their 3d audio solution (it’s a dumb situation).

Yes, they only support "Atmos" for blu-rays.

Their Tempest 3D Audio sounds just as good as Atmos though for games.

Just read another article confirming PS5 games don't have Atmos :( BUT....they recorded a new Atmos mix for the PC at Abbey Road Studios, where the Beatles recorded, so as legit as it gets for music and a really good sign it may have full surround based Atmos if they went through all that trouble. I'm installing now and will report back!
