having a prestige 10 dorm with 10 beds will keep 50 student happy.
i just find it easier
2 with 10 as they occupy less space if configured correctly and allow for a more spread out campus.
1 with 20 centralises everything in 1 spot.
Even if you want it to look like smaller rooms you can build a long room with multiple doors and separate each bed or couple of beds with partition walls, example:

That's 1 room, 10 beds, will service 50 students. You can make them bigger than that if you wanted to.
My only concern here is what gets me the best rent amount, or is that only based on number of students in the room?
It is the prestige level and number of students in the room that determines how much rent you get per dorm. More students is more pay for each dorm. High prestige is more money from each student. Aim for a prestige of 10. As for how many students, one bed can service 5 students. I usually go for 10 beds in the dorm. Bigger is not always better, I fit 10 beds in a 3x7 room. Then windows, pictures until it hits 10. Trying to centralize the dorm through all the levels... good luck
IMO it is better to have the library centered as much as you can. That is always the biggest complaint I have seen. Just remember when making a room, use each item only 2 or 3 times. It loses prestige the more you use it. This also counts for furniture. FYI each bed is considered different furniture, though they are all beds.
Nope. Doesn't make a difference. They pay the same if they share, or get their own. So it is better to have 5 to a bed. Cheaper to build, uses less space.
I fully know you can't have one dorm in levels where you don't have access to the center of the map - there is no central location. I have been building by courses together and then having multiple libraries, lounges, and student unions, hoping it would keep people in their areas. Worked very well on the second map. Mitton I should have done the central thing, but I didn't learn about that suggestion until I'd already built a massive campus. I'll have to try it when I get another map with a center.
I try and place them all into a central tile and modify the building to hold as many dorms, showers and baths as I can, while placing a ton of happiness items in my halls which are 2 to 3 tiles wide minimum.
I also set my club sign ups in strategic locations with speed walking club just outside of my dorm building. I only do one SU on campus, but I make it pretty huge. I'll have one big library close to my dorms with some smaller satellite libraries around the campus. I only do a single SU as well, but it's also large.
I'm going to mess around with the single option next time I hit a map with the center plot open to us. You can't centralize on a map otherwise.
That's it - that's the question.
