A few general tips:
- Wait with the expulsion ceremony till you've reached 3 quarters into the year. Your attack power on the plots is tied to your students' progress in Paranormal Detection. So make sure to have a lot of students in Paranormal Detection and as all students they level up during the year. But you also need to start the expulsion ceremony before the students go to their final classes and they suddenly graduate. Around 75% into the year was the best time for me.
- Pay close attension to the indicator for each map showing how strong the enemy ghost is. If your students' attack power is higher than both the low and high values shown, they'll always win. If their power is higher than the lower number but smaller than the higher number, there's only a chance that they'll defeat the ghost.
- If your students' attack power is high enough by itself to beat the two values shown for the ghost, they don't need to complete the secondary objective for that map. The secondary objective is purely optional, indending to help you by bringing down the ghost's defence power on that plot. In one of the first three or four plots, I struggled tremendously with trying to complete the secondary objective without realizing that I could actually just brute force that plot without doing the secondary objective.
- You don't have to defeat the ghosts "in order". Your students can pass by a plot guarded by a ghost so if you can clear another plot behind it, do so and get the reward.
Before you defeat the 1 star ghost, the campus will be very cramped. Don't be afraid to knock down walls and redesign your campus exterior completely to fit in the rooms required and be aware they'll be pretty small. Once you get control of more land you can expand the campus and make it better.
In terms of the money issue. Do you run financial research projects and have you tried fitting a money wrangling course in? Also remember the cheat from Two Point Hospital, 99% sure it also works here: start a research project on another level and almost complete it. Then go to the current level and complete the project. The payout is for the university that completes the project.
thank you so mmuch for the suggestions and i had totally forgotten about that research hack, altho the research projects are not as freely available are they?
as for the expulsion ceremonies just concentrate on the requirements for double damage on zones that are closest to the starting area. As Helen A said above, you don't need to do them in order, but, the ones further away tend to be the more powerful ones. Only expand courses for the Paranormal Detection courses and give those students all the perks, the higher their grade and the more of them there are the more damage they do. in the end you will have Paranormal Detect at level 5 or 6 while the other courses are still at level 1.
I will admit, that by the end, the entire starting area was completely covered in building space and I had to move my dig sites to other zones, but, its quite doable. you may need to redesign some rooms to be more efficient in space savings.
I think the hardest damage bonus was getting 3 level 5 clubs. start clubs early as it may take 2-3 game years to get all of them up to level 5.
Also you don't have to add decorations to every room at the start, get just the basic shoebox done for the first few years and worry about prestige later.
Remember the fact that one bed goes for FIVE students and the minimum size required for a dorm is 2x2, use that size to cram a lot of dorms in one of the buildings and don't worry about dorm prestige, you can get the prestige requirement for one of the expulsions through other rooms.
Don't forget to adjust the amount of students the campus will take in each year, often the difference between having to build another classroom or hire another teacher is a one or two students.
Have a training chamber up on day one and don't hold back on training the janitors on the ghost-busting skill (yes, the ghost cluster storm gets way out of hand later on if you're not ready for it), also don't forget to hire more janitors every now and then. (no, 25+ janitors is not "too much")
Keep in mind the lenght of each course, after year three you normally won't have to build any more classrooms giving your budget a bit of a breather. (at this point, yes, build the Union if you have room for it).
thank you so much for the comments above, some definite tips to keep me going and trying to do the campus a bit differently to how i have been doing!
