I understand the scanario. As a Boomer, I keep thinking about "real" Elvis and "his blue suede shoes"...
Basically, you cannot beat the game without him so you need him alive.

The story makes sense however the execution is beyond pitiful. The comparison with the game of Thrones is spot on. It's the cringe dialog who ruins it... It's like someone created a decent novel but had absolutely no idea how to translate it as a game.
Since I just completed it and all I had to do was kill the 10 collectors, I decided to look into what you were so viciously attacking this person about; an emortal game breaking bug? I can't find any mention of it anywhere.
Also couldn't you just reload to an earlier save?
