it was a few years later they were able to buy the rights to many of their games back.
and by that point it probably not worth renaming the company.
That's disappointing.

I only played Zool on my A600 a few days ago, bought this tonight, had a blast. Fired up the "Emulator" from the menu and what a pile of dog ♥♥♥♥♥ the Mega Drive version is. Can't believe how bad it is compared to the Amiga version.

Really? That's seen as the best console port. If you want a really bad port try the SNES version. :lunar2020gigglemonkey:

Are there much differences between the level layout of the Amiga version of Zool compared to the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis version?

The Acorn Archimedes version of Zool definitely has level differences, at least on the first two worlds, anyway.

EDIT: Just tried the DOS version and it looks like the level layout is the same as the Acorn Archimedes version. Also, you can't climb up and down walls in it (same as Acorn), you have to jump up and away then back, to gradually work your way up walls.

There is 2 different Amiga versions.

CD32/1200 version were superior to MegaDrive.

Amiga 500 version is probably similar to MegaDrive.

I prefer the original Amiga 500 version because it didn't have the confusing backgrounds.

I can't see an Amiga version. Both options are the Megadrive levels.

The remastered version is an altered Amiga version.

personally I only played the PC-Dos version but I would not be surprised if the Amiga or even genesis version was better , it was sometime the case in many early games.

Hi Everyone - The game only contains an emulated version of the Mega Drive version of the game. The remaster contains aspects of several different versions of the game (e.g. Amiga music), but provides the additional levels and core mechanics found in the Mega Drive version of the game. However, it is also different from all previous versions in a whole range of subtle (and less subtle) ways which make it much more accessible than the original.

More information about the history of Gremlin (and Sumo) can be found here:

Thank you. I like the remaster more than the Amiga original as parts of it dated badly.
I prefer it more zoomed out in widescreen, and CRT mode to smooth out the graphics.

Do you have any plans to remaster these games?

- Fatal Racing / Whiplash (Were even better with 3DFX card on PC)
- GTI Club + (Port of PS3 version which already runs at 1080p/60 on PS3 i think)

Glad you like it! No decisions have been made yet about the Academy's future projects.
