It enhances the experience a lot and the first game is just really good so I would highly recommend it.

Also, it is a sequel that does reference the first game quite a bit

I would strongly advise it, as there's a ton of references from the first game in it.

You could always watch the anime for a TLDR version.

There are multiple huge reveals and plot points that will mean almost nothing to you if you don't play the first, which is an exceptional game. The switch port is divisive because they had to heavily alter the uniqueness of the gameplay that only the DS/3DS could do, but the game is still cool and the story the same.

Also the android port works well for once, so there's that if you don't have a Switch.

Which one between the game and the anime adaptation would you advise ?

Not necessarily, but you should at least watch the anime before hand. It does help, since some of the game does want you to know who certain characters are

I haven't seen much of the anime, but I'd stick with the game. I think the anime compresses the plot slightly?

You can get through about 1/3 or even half of the game without knowing anything about the first, but by the end, it's all references to the first and major plot events only work if you know what happened the first time.

Yes. Not only just the original, but you ideally need to see the additional content in the Switch release. The anime might be an okay alternative, is pretty fast, and has sub or dub. Its a bit condenses, but also not like you're super missing out either, since the gameplay of the mobile and then switch rereleases is a substantial step back from the 2-screen DS original.

for the first twewy, the game is the best experience, any version will do
some people will swear by the ds version and while it has better combat, honestly just pick whatever, its a great game any way.
Okay, well, i think i'll go with the emulated Switch one then anime (for a resume of the events) then NEO on PC ! Thanks for the informations ppls !
I have a Switch and have been toying with the idea of getting TWENY, but haven't gotten around to it. I can see how the Switch version might have trouble, since the original was fundamentally designed around two screens.

Wait, I just remembered I gave my old 3DS to my sister so she could play Fire Emblem; I'm sure she wouldn't mind giving it back. Finding a copy of such a cult classic at a reasonable price will be another matter...

And if you can't be assed, there's still the 6 part analysis on Game as Lit youtube channel.
It goes in deep, about the DS version.
