ue4 crash on startup on windows 8.1
so i tried sol 1 and 2 and nothing has worked I reinstalled several times and that wont work idk what else to do besides get a refund I have never had an issue like this ever so it saddens me to start now on a game that looks fun since my days on freelancer and x3 reunion days

Solution 1: If issue persists, go to steamapps\common\SpaceBourne 2\Engine\Binaries\ThirdParty\OpenXR\win64 and rename "openxr_loader.dll" to "nohmd_openxr_loader.dll"
Solution 2: Right click the game on Steam and click on Properties. Under Launch Options, add "-nohmd" with no quotes.

my comp specs, Intel Core i7 I7-4790K 4 GHz Quad-Core Processor, 2x 8gb, corsair vengeance ram pro ddr3 , nvidia gtx 970 graphics card soon to be a 1080 once i install it,sandisk ultraplus 256g main hd, 1tb secondary not a "sandisk" and another for backup, asrock z97 pro4 motherboard, g15 gamer keyboard, sades 7.1 blk/red surround sound headphones, asus 27" flat hd screen.. windows 8.1

Hello there.
Can you copy & paste the error log from the crash here?

Did you try backing up saves/screenshots and then deleting the C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\SB2\Saved folder?

Verifying files after that can sometimes fix some strange file corruptions Steam seems to be causing during updates.

Let us know if you are using any mods, as its a known cause of launch & load crashes.

i just bought the game today, no mods of any kind i dont use them, nothing to back up, where do i get the crash logs? also idk if it says it on everyone's taskmanager when i click ue4 a sub folder pops up saying sb2 both have red x saying not responding idkif that matters and remember i did do the solutions i tried to run it compatible windows 8

From what you said about the taskmanager, the game is stuck on the background and cannot launch. Finalize those processes and try to launch the game again.

Basically, run the game through steam and copy & paste whatever error messages appears here (or a screenshot of the error message)

the game just stays on the black screen and then will crash but i,m not given codes it says a program caused the program to stop working correctly. windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available,

Understood, I'll forward your case to the developer to see if he can provide any insight. Thanks!

Sorry for the trouble:(

Unfortunately, there can be problems with some Windows versions when using Unreal Engine. I've previously opened a ticket with Epic Games about this, but haven't received any results. Yesterday, I applied again with the project files and I'm waiting for a response.

Meanwhile, I'll upload the game as another sub-version with the next update. Maybe this will solve the problem, and if not, at least we can see the cause of the crash more clearly.

I'm currently compiling a list of players who can't open the game. I'll let you know when the game runs smoothly on different older versions of Windows, but if you want, you can refund the game during this process. I'll inform you when the problem is definitely resolved.

Thank you for responding! And thank you for the effort to get to the bottom of this issue.

Yes, I have this issue also, also on Win8.1, rest of my PC specs is the same as the recommended requirements except for GPU, which is a GTX 1050ti.

I bought the game around 24 February so my refund period already expired. I just didn't know if it was a compatibility issue or not so I held on to it, especially since people kept shouting that my PC is the problem and not the game.

I hope it can be solved because, honestly, I don't want to refund the game even if I could, I want to play it! It looks awesome and the exact sort of game I'm always looking for.

I can post the error log a bit later if that would help.

EDIT: Here's my latest full crash log:

I also am seeing this issue on Windows 8.1. The error xml is the same as posted above, differing only in system h/w details.

just bought the game.. 1st time launch - look at the settings, then starting game.. and it's stuck in black screen. close it ALT+F4 - then game isn't laod - just crash everytime

EDIT: ok, i have and VR HMD and i really don't want to UNPLUG them physically, so then i type in command line in properties "-nohmd" and it's work.

soooo, developer answer me - that game in a future planned use VR? if not - so disable\delete\cut VR option in Unreal Project settings, i begging you, my coolers and videocard are going crazy with this
