With the exception of calling experience 'reputation' you are correct. It's easiest seen with first time mining bit noticeable later too. Go mining the first time (gold normally) and Mining Guild has zero experience. Adventurer is low or zero. Mine for four hours and before heading back to the station look at experience. Mining Guild you have gone up from level 1 to at least level 3 (my latest new save I am over level 3,400). Your adventurer will also have accumulated points. You haven't sold a thing yet. Now go and sell it. Your TY has gone up a lot but your experience points have not changed since you stopped mining.
Whilst mining, the +XP you see is towards your adventurer level and it doesn't show your actual guild gain, so I'm currently not sure if you get XP per second or per ore mined etc.
Not joking.
