SpaceBourne 2
Base Building?
Congrats on a great game so far, will base building be included in this game?

I doubt, crafting is planed but this is not a construction game and I don't want it to be turned as such. This is not a new Minecraft à la Empyrion, Space Engineers or 7DTD, go play these ones if construction is your thing, you'll be more than satisfied.

Why not? Would be a nice feature, I would be happy to see it

Wny not?
In all these games with base building (and I own a few ones) there is a central lack: The purpose of base-building is non-existant making it old very quickly unless it's a good survival game which this one will hardly ever be. I'm not at the age of lego play, that's the reason, and for a good lego play I don't need a space game genre to play. Let's keep apples and oranges in different baskets.

Thats your opinion , I think it would be a good edition, lets see what other people think, I didn't realize Lego had an age limit either but bases dont have to be the main focus of a game, X4 has bases, No mans Sky has bases, even earth has a space station in real life, thats what space is about!

I'd like to see the game actually well-polished and free of bugs/typos long before base building is considered.

The game has structures already. You just don't custom build them AFAIK.

already building a space station, making a village/base would be pretty cool down the road.

Contrary to what our grumpy friend over there thinks, I think it's a very interesting idea and I would really like to see Base construction. It doesn't have to be mandatory. You could have the option of existing bases of various models abandoned by the Planets and you could simply take over them and make your base.

I mean, I dont know how extensive capitol ships are cuz Im not there yet, but more indepth for that would be awesome. Being able to walk inside, having your labs and other quarters where you can research, grow stuff would be cool. See your crew mates and dining room and so on. Giving more functionality. Its a single guy making the game, so I doubt base building of any kind with any depth will happen. If the game is a success, he should honestly hire more people.

There is nothing wrong with adding the OPTION to build stuff. In my opinion A space sim that lets you trade and mine should have the option to build stuff so you can make things to sell. Again, this is entirely optional. That said, i haven't gotten the game yet i only stubled across this by pure accident a few minutes ago so maybe there is an actual reason why the idea is rejected?

I mean i really can't understand why anyone would be against this I mean even in the game description it says "In SpaceBourne 2, you have the ability to establish your own faction and wield complete control over it. You get to decide on the faction's internal operations, policies, governing principles, and management structure. By expanding your faction's military, capturing other stations and solar systems, or constructing new stations, you can become the supreme ruler of the galaxy." It sounds to me that building stuff kinda goes hand in hand with what the devs want the game to be.

My 2 cents...

@Nutcase56 imho SB2 is not a space sim...least not yet it is not. Kenshi and X4 are sims...Sims is a sim, hell Stellaris is more a sim than SB2...again imho.

But your not wrong! This game is early access and we will get those elements, in fact, we have most of it already (all be it not polished and fully realized).

We have bases (they are called stations), we have trade, we have mining (WiP imho), and we will have crafting (in some fashion*) ...even salvaging.

I can not speak for anyone else other than myself... All too often gamers ask for elements that they like from another game and sometimes developers bend the knee and add them. To a degree, I would even agree that this is for the better or at the least just ok. But there are times when it kills a game for me entirely. (Wolcen comes to mind..what it was and what it became 2 different games.)

SB2 is not say X4, and I personally have no interest in a X4 game...so the more I see people calling for Bases like X4, or automation like X4 and the other thing from X4 (as examples).... it kinda makes me cringe a lil. Because on the one hand, I feel those people should go play X4... it sounds like that is what they really want. Before I digress to much further...

Let's be specific. @consolepcgaming question was will there be bases (in short) and the answer is yes. In fact, they exist already in the form of Stations (and more so in the form of the recently added Mothership).

But what does a base mean or rather base building? Means a lot of things to a lot of different people. And, imho most of those do not fit for this game. Even if I liked it in say Creataverse (game) doesn't mean it should be done like that in SB2.

On the other hand, (still imho) suggesting/pressuring (pressuring probably doesn't fit and may be too strong a word but I am keeping it because I have literally seen forum mobs form on an idea...push to get their way) really takes from a developer's creative concept (their original vision) and precious time (especially the smaller the team is, let alone one person) developing these ideas.

For example, the Dev said something to the effect ...he'd have salvaging in the game already but he wants it to be more than a light flash and a sound and you get the item (just like other games). So when someone comes to forums and says we should have salvaging as such-N-such game has... a lil cringe occurs (at least in me) lol.

@everyone Gonna sound a bit white knight'ish, but seriously why not let DBK and crew make his game, his way? And if you don't like it (then), at least the price is right to find out..ya? (can't tell ya how many AAA games I spent $50+ on to find out it wasn't for me lol.

*= Alongside "bases"... We got the mothership and yay we can dock ships and vendor in it..cool. But I am kinda like was making the one jump to a station that difficult? Can we pilot more than a single ship at a time? But hey you all asked and DBK delivered.

That said I am really interested in the crafting mechanics and how that will play out. Since it is a single-player game and looks to be always a single-player game ...well in short there is no market for crafting weapons and armor (imho). Typically the time it takes to gather and craft said items, is often less profitable than say taking a merc job to raid a village. (and yes I am basing this more on other games, but not in a fashion of saying this game should do what that game does).

Now if weapons and armor, over time, can be more of use than say even Legendary counterparts...that would sweet. But even IF this were true and we added in ship components and weapons to the list of BTL (Better Than Legendary)... I wonder if the time is worth it? So I for one am hoping the DBK (and crew) really does not pull from other games and gives us something really original (no pressure bud(s) ;) )

I feel like I should be able to build a base on a planets where a non-player-controllable structure preexisted in orbit (extra escape routes, independent resource stations that can't be Operations-targeted.)

That way, control (and production) could be established in systems where one couldn't build a space station, which would further incentivize the use of ground forces for planetary base assault/defense.
