Find one of the ships with the perk which activates both weapon groups at once

Do a 3+3 split of your favourite weapon type and stack as many bonusses through components to that weapon type as possible

Activate the perk and pewpewpew

Annihilating ship model has 6 weapons slot
I personnaly stick with 3 laser Rail + 3 Gatling gun
from the Freelancer guild rank 2 you get elite ones and rank 3 Legendary one
Using the combo skill that activates both groups of weap is good, but has a overheat means at the end of the skill uses you can't shoot for a couple seconds

last point when you place your weapons into slots put in the 1st one the highest dmg
there is an accuracy reduction (that's why 3 is max weapons to use)

at pilot 21 now and using dad's ship with four rails, slower firing means can hold button for long time before heats up and they just melts shields but yeah slower on armor
unlocking freelancer legendary weapons helps too :)

Wingmen seem to do mostly shield damage.

So railgun felt redundant and the fire rate is too low, im using a small ship that comes with only 2 weapon slot on top of that.

so 3 weapon slot max.

I wanted something with good range and good fire rate.

Pulse and beam : same thing as rail, they are just redundant. Pulse is good so far. Beam isn't.

Shotgun : terrible weapon. I don't even know why it is called a shotgun. It has nothing to do with that. It should be called a Cannon or something like that.

Burst : amazing fire rate with decent damage and very short range. Range is the problem here.

Gatling : My personal choice. Good fire rate. very good damage and nearly the same range as railguns.

So my ship is running 3 Gatling right now.

Haha I thought the same thing. The description says fires 8 projectiles, and it's called a shotgun, so you think "oh it fires 8 at once, like a shotgun. And the damage numbers look like trash but if you multiple by 8x its ok". But lmao no, it's a chargeup weapon that charges up to 8 shots after a wait. Absolute garbage.

I don't use wingmen (I find them boring) and my ship is the Morthra Geran which has a lot of component slots, so when upgraded, you get an insane number of bonuses, but only a total of 3 weapons slots.

I use railgun since they do fast damage to shield and still good damage to armor and huge range and just never need to swap cause with enough power diverted to weapons, they take like 5 mins of continues fire to over heat (and cool down in seconds) and fire very fast.

They also have very long range. So blow most up before they can shoot me,

Slot 1, 2 Railgun to blow up any fighters in seconds.
Slot 2, 1 Gatling for heavy fighters/drone ships if I do not want to use a tornedo (do not bother with missiles)

So just Railgun and Gatling for me.
(I run Cloak, Mirror ship and stabilize for easy pod recovery) No need for wingmen.

amount of component slot don't matter as much latter since you can upgrade your ship with the missing ones.

you can give it another weapon slot too.

Here's my thoughts (opinion only):

Purchase the X-M1 (the Black Ops one that looks like a wedge) and add a Turret (for 3 total) & an Offensive or Aim or Weapon Unique Module (whichever it didn't come with, at a Faction Hangar). Make sure the one you buy has super high bonus weapon damage AND (most important) the Perk that drops a mirror image of your ship). I was able to find one with ~41% when I was Pilot 18. Equip 3x Rails and every single Component you can find with +Rail damage.

Prior to Warping into combat, hit up arrow twice, then the moment you land on-grid hit 5 for the Decoy, then Tab and shred everything in sight. The enemy NPC's will attack your Decoy the entire time you're destroying them.

With the Perk that reducing overheating and how fast you kill, the Guns will basically never overheat. Encounters have a minimum timer, the faster you drop Ships, the more spawn. I've had nearly a dozen spawn in total with 8+ Crate drops with how fast that set up kills targets.

Now for the drawback, the X-M1 has ♥♥♥♥ Cargo space and weight plus only 1 Captive slot so you can end up overloaded (-87% Warp speed) after looting a single group of Ships.

You don't find the two weapon slots (upgradable to 3) too limiting from a damage standpoint?
djinnxy Mar 28, 2023 @ 6:25pm
I use the xeghan warrior with 1 add weapon slot. I tried all the weapons several different times and always end up back at 2 rail, 2 gatling, and 1 missile. With the right ship upgrades shields come down nearly instantly. The gatling takes a little which is why I like the burner missiles.

The ship has all weapon fire, cooler, and a somewhat useless anti cargo scanner. The all fire works great on heavy fighters. If you pop that and then the weapon cooler with the weapon damage consumable you burn through bosses in an instant.

Check the guides section. Someone has went to the trouble of explaining parts about weapons. The more you add the less effective each slot is goes like 100%, 50%, 30%, 15% or something like that.

What I like to do is use Gatling x 2 and Pulse x 2 and make sure they are low heat generation. Get at least T3 for them and they do great damage fairly quickly and you dont overheat before taking down your opponent. Also be sure to upgrade your weapons as you level. You dont buy them just once and then figure you are done- even if they are tier 4+. A tier 4+ should last about 5 levels above their current level rating before they are outdone by even a T1. Some goes with your components - keep upgrading them for max efficiency.

Each weapon you add is less effective then the next. (diminishing returns) The best point seems to be 4 (2 lots of 2) weapons.

With 2 that never over heat and hit hard from range, everything dies in seconds anyway, so no issues yet (L50 pilot)

Yeah I agree - I saw that person explain this in the guides section and it makes sense. Also noticed the same in overheating. My post right above yours has a bit more detail. Check it and add more pointers to it if you can - I am only level 20ish and want to optimize a bit more :).
