Best Fighter Ship and load out?
I have a few million saved up (30M) and I’m looking for a good strong fighter ship and have no clue what I should be looking for or what to put on the ship turret slots. Suggestions?

For me nothing beat having a manoeuvrable ship.

So my vote goes for the X-M1 but if you want to carry and capture pods it will be better to use the Mist.

But the Annihilating ship is no joke either when you use the All weapons perk.

I love the Nexasis, it has 4 turret slots, enough for full railgun build.

The Xeghan Warrior and Morthra Geran (after her turret slots are fixed) seem good too. For a fighter, I would recommend looking for the multiple missile perk, as it is effectively a very strong infinite ammo missile launcher.

I just got the Xeghan Warrior with multiple missile perk. Do I need to add a missile rack to take it advantage of that? I ranked up the Tier and added a turret slot + offensive component. Maybe I should drop the offensive component and add the missile rack?

I use the Xeghan warrior with 3 rail guns and dont bother with the missile rack. It's the best IMO.
Perks are Immortal, Missile swarm and stabilizer.
I warp in, blast my first targets shields down and hit it with the missile swarm, move to the next target and the first target dies to missiles as your taking down the second targets shields -
I hit the X chaff key every time they put a lock on my ship and the immortal perk when im in trouble.
Another tip is to take down a drone swarm, target its mothership, hit immortal, charge in, blast it's shield then missile swarm and then get out - the drones will die when the mothership dies.

In a long battle, if your're low on energy use an energy consumable.
Thats it I guess.

I like the Xeghan Warrior. It comes with three weapon slots, which is all you really need due to the efficiency system. It also has 4 prisoner slots for pod captures, can roll with Holographic Mirror (which really makes combat easier) and can also roll with Stabilizer (which I consider mandatory for pod capturing). It's pretty quick, too, and has higher than average boosts to crits and weapon damage (though not as high as the X-M1).

Because it has all the weapon slots it needs, that means you can use the faction upgrades for two ship mod slots, allowing you to effectively end up with every combat mod (offensive and defensive), and even get a cargo mod slot that boosts both carrying capacity and ship speed. My highest level character is level 60 right now and she's flown a Xeghan Warrior since level 5. I've never struggled. The ship excels at combat, it's a quick traveler and it holds a lot of loot.

For turrets, rails are pretty much the go-to. They have the best range, don't run too hot, and have very good damage. I can see a situation where burst weapons could be useful on a crit build where you want to spread procs, but I haven't really found any of the procs to be particularly effective. It's not even clear to me which ones are working and which aren't, so I usually just go for +% damage or +minimum and maximum damage on the highest damage guns -- rails. It's hard to go wrong with damage, especially when Holographic Mirror is taking most of the damage instead of you.

Really, though, I don't think there's a best ship. I've flown most of them now, and they seem to be the most balanced part of the game. If you want to mine, there's only one ship for that. If you want to scan (when exploring is fully implemented), there will best ships for that based on the number of probes they can carry. For capturing pods, there are ships that have a higher number of pod slots. For basic combat, though, any ship can excel at it with decent weapons, decent ship mods and good passives from the Pilot skill tree. If one ship design is more appealing to you than the others (and it has enough pod slots for you), then that's the ship I'd recommend. Once you do pick a ship, though, definitely spend some time rerolling it at the ship terminal to get the best stats and perks you can on it.

Just a little info for people using Multi-missiles.

Be careful when you use it since it can hit your ship if you move forward during the deployment phase.

I killed myself a couple of time using this perk. It is something you need to be wary if you use a very fast ship.

Personally I have been through all currently known ships and the Xeghan is by far my preferred choice.

Highly recommended as a good overall ship with the ability to melt anything you come across.

The Nexasis is my bread and butter, 4 weapon and Captive slots as well as 4 probe slots (only if you buy it at tier 3 or 4) which from what I can tell isn't too useful now but may come into play later. You can run full components (minus the drone and misactor ones of course) because it starts with 7/9 already and its 4 weapons slots means you really don't need to add another turret.

Add in the perks weapons Burst for offense, Holographic Mirror for Defense, and Stabilizer for QoL and you've got a beast of a ship. It honestly does everything so well I view it as the 'Hero' ship.

This is definitely a good ship too! No doubt.

A lot comes down what you like as well as how you play.

Is the Xeghan Still available in version 1.6?

I’ve been to about 10 outposts and none have it for sale

It is a specific outpost that sell it.

Every ''Race'' has a different ship.

For example you won't find the Xeghan if the outpost you are in is selling the Falron tank.

I'm pretty sure there's a guide here on Steam in the community hub that tells you how to get it. You can buy it from multiple stations (not outposts), but I think Z2 has it? It'll always be the bottom ship of the list, and there will never be more than one.

It's X-M for me, but that said you can make pretty much all the Ships capable of competent fighting, you just need to learn the "how" in Space combat as well as Component loadout (Stat itemization).

To prove a point to myself, I bought a Marader just to see if I was capable of taking what on paper seems to be the worst Fighter in the game and make it capable, and that I did. Sure, it can't near insta-pop Ships like my X-M does, nor is it as fast but it has 4 Captive slots, the Stablizer Perk so I can reel in those Pods easier & I found one with the Holographic Mirror Perk as well. To top it off it came with a Cargo Module so I'm running with 123 Cargo slots at Pilot 38 in that Ship!

-A bit of RP:

I left the T1 "Paint job" as it looks like it's barely held together, just like you'd think a Smuggler type of 'Space Pirate' might fly as he/she just barely gets by, but does so on their terms (screw the Alliance). And I couldn't even think about undocking it without Gatling Guns on it, as it fits perfectly on a flying pile of scrap. But boy, it sure would be nice if we had some grenades, don't you think? Shiny.

-Loadout:

Added a Turret (for 3x Gatlings) & Offensive Unique Module. I load Shield & Damage Boosters + Pod catchers. Tried to get every Component possible with Damage Absorb/Resist, added Damage bonus to all Weapons & +Turret Damage. Lastly, made certain to get +Ship/Warp speed (Cargo Component). Ended up at very respectable Stats for LvL 38, full Legendaries:

Shields: 228K
Armor: 238K
Bonus Dmg: 182%
Crit chance: 45% (including T2 Sharp Shooter Perk) (Plus 4% from Molyax)
Crit ceiling: +550% (Plus 8% from Molyax)
RoF: 123%
Accuracy: 184%
Damage Absorb: 21.4% (plus 6% from Anka)
Damage Resist: 29.7% (Plus 9% from Anka)
Speed: 15.5km/h (about 60% of my X-M)
Warp: 197Mil m/s (about 70% of my X-M)
Cargo: 123 / 405 m3

My favorite is the Quuen. 5 turret slots (2 Gatling, 3 Rail) with All-group fire, Weapon cooldown, and Stabilizer (best money maker for pod capture).

3 rails is usually enough for most enemies, but you can pop both all weapons and weapon cooldown and delete any ship. Could use additional 2 rails, but I just like the gatlings.

also has 4 captive slots and good maneuverability. Added Offensive and Shield slots and it can take on anything.
