SpaceBourne 2
Unreal Engine 5?
Hay Dev Dude! I'm just discovering your game and so far I am pretty impressed with what you've been able to accomplish. I was wondering if you had any plans to upgrade this to UE5? From my experience the engine is faster to work with on the development side and your game would look simply incredible.

that seems like a user issue. Cant expect a toaster to make pizza, You need to upgrade.

That said, I am watching this game with great interest.

Longevity. What looks good enough today might not be looking great when this game is finished. I do also hope it can be started at a higher tech level and not be aged at release.

Question, does the game have HDR if you know? Just bought a OLED 4k 120hz monitor and been looking at space games, because of the incredible black the OLED puts out, and space games would really show it off. as well as colors. I cant find any info if this has DLSS or HDR.

Would you know? Thanks in advance.

Not necessarily.

Massive performance improvements
I've seen many people worried whether upgrading to UE5 would have any effect on the performance of the game, especially on low end systems. And it does. A good one :) The UE5 version is dramatically faster, across all levels of graphics quality and all hardware. Most of these improvements come from significantly improved support for DirectX 12 in the engine. We will be setting it as the default in future releases after more testing. Comparing on mid-range hardware You're likely wondering about the performance on common hardware, so let's start with the game running on a GTX 1650. I'm running in a 1080p window without temporal upscaling, and using the maximum view distance setting. In this full view of a 2 million brick build, UE4 only gets us 34 fps. In UE5, we reach 60 fps in the same view! That's 76% faster. Much better.

How much easier and faster is it to work on the world on the 5th engine? How much more beautiful and diverse are the worlds?

UE 5.2 is amazing and I really hope that Spacebourne 2 can be migrated over to UE 5.2 / 5.3. Take advantage of Nanite, Lumen, Chaos Physics, and really make Spacebourne 2 a game that stays current with the latest game engine technology that is included in UE 5.2/5.3.

Maybe leave “Spacebourne 2” as UE4, and then begin to port/migrate “Spacebourne 2” over to UE 5.2 / 5.3 and call it “Spacebourne 3”. That way people with very old legacy hardware can still play “Spacebourne 2” and people with more modern hardware (and DirectX 12) can play the UE 5.2 / 5.3 version. Then in the future, just continue to work on developing the latest UE 5.2 / 5.3 version. Using Lumen, Nanite, Chaos Physics, Substrate, PCG, etc. and the very latest UE 5.3 game technologies.

Either way, I really hope this project is upgraded to UE 5.2 / 5.3 / 5.4. Using the very latest UE 5.3 / 5.4 technologies (And possibly released as “Spacebourne 3”) in the very near future. This way people with extremely old / outdated hardware can still play “Spacebourne 2” and future development can be done using UE 5.3 / 5.4 in “Spacebourne 3”. So the game continues to evolve and use the very latest game engine technologies. I would be willing to purchase both games, just to support the future development of a new UE 5.3 / 5.4 version of the game.

Also please add “DLSS 3” and “FSR 3” support to both “Spacebourne 2” and future “Spacebourne 3” and please make Spacebourne 3 a multiplayer game, based on Spacebourne 2, but using Unreal Engine 5.3 / 5.4 and designed for multiplayer. I believe the community would buy and support both Spacebourne 2 and Spacebourne 3! (Especially Spacebourne 3 that is UE 5.3 / 5.4 based and multiplayer).

Sorry necro but one game ported to UE5 and it gained a lot performance.

Actually just the opposite. Most games on UE5 are 50% to 70% faster, and far higher FPS than old archaic dead-end (end of life) UE4.

UE 5.3/5.4 has come a long way. Plus the graphics and chaos physics / lumen / Nanite really reduce the draw calls and handles culling pretty well.

You should LEARN about UE 5.3/5.4 before giving an IGNORANT and FOOLISH opinion.

But I suppose if your garbage computer is older than 3 years old and worth less than $50, then maybe you don’t really game… and you should stick to playing solitaire or something simple.

Sorry necro but one game ported to UE5 and it gained a lot performance.

99.99999% of games run 3 to 4 times faster / better on UE 5.4 than UE4.x

Keep in mind that modern DLSS 3 / FSR 3 plugins are not even available for old UE4.

Only UE 5.x (and later) are supported (by NVIDIA and AMD) for their latest DLSS and FSR plugins for Unreal Engine.

UE 4 is completely DEAD and EOL (End of Life) for at least 5+ years now. What type of games are you playing (that are less than a decade old) that are using UE4? Not a single game developed during the past 4 years has been developed using UE4. It’s dead. It’s been dead.

Even Squad was migrated over to UE5 at least a year ago. It does take some work (from developers) to port a game over and optimize it for UE5.3/5.4, but it causes the game to jump in fidelity from an old archaic “PlayStation 1” type game to a more modern “PlayStation 5” type game / experience.

But if you still enjoy your old archaic “PlayStation 1” type of games / experience then you be you.

UE 5.4 is a huge upgrade and HUGE jump in performance and tools, and features. Plus UE4 is no longer supported and has been End-of-life for many many years now. It would make absolutely no sense at all, to attempt to use UE4 for anything at all.
