Alpha and Nova squad?

Do i need to progress in the story to unlock this feature? So far they do nothing (or am i missing stg? just destroyed the first station)

pretty sure you a mother ship to use them, Nova Squad is your ground squad which can follow you down onto a planet, not sure about Alpha tbh

ok so they never pop up untill i have the MS? thought i could fly with it as a small ship, like in the first tutorial where we fly as a squad for a mission.

I've only ever seen it through video but everytime they're using a mother ship so im relatively sure thats how it is

no mothership is needed for those squads. they work with every ship in space (alpha) and on ground (nova) beside the player.

you can fill those 2x4 slots right & left next to your player icon in the upper faction tab with available freelancers from your army as soon as you have some at hand (after mail access was achieved through storyline). just drag & drop them from your army on the bottom up to those squad slots; same way you'd assign them to general's squads.

summon them with F1 and give them orders with F2-F5 keys.

if they die in battles, their slots must be refilled with new - ideally already trained - freelancers from your army reserve which is filled by gathering people through mail missions.

Alpha squad is your fighter squadron you can summon in space. Nova Squad is your ground group.

Yes, you need enough people in your faction before you can start to place people there.

F1 won't summon my Nova squad. they are in the slots, but I can't get them to summon

I've had the same problem with Nova Squad as comment above mine. They're in slots, but I can't summon them during ground missions.

its shift+F1 for space and ground teams

i had same problem but i just entered ship and exited again then it all worked well (till i send them away again)

latest 4.0.0 update nova squad can't be called, changing the summoning key doesn't help
