Hand Mining on Planets

Perhaps my struggles come from this feature not being fully implemented yet, but I cannot seem to make mining on planets work. I finally figured out that "TAB" switched to the mining tool. But, now, all I can do is shoot a pretty pink beam at the ground. It is not able to collect anything.

The UI says "Impact" and then "Platinum" under that. But, I shot the same spot on the ground for 2 minutes and gained nothing in my, or my ship's, inventory.

The tool tip for the mining tool mentions explosives, but I cannot figure out what button uses them.

Anyone else been able to figure out these features or are they not in the game yet?

I'm looking to make money without doing combat.

you can mine with an extension of your ship, you have to buy all the needed equipment ( 3 equipments ) and a mining ship opn the ELITE screens in mining station

Thanks, that's great to know! But, I'm also wondering about hand mining. Is it in the game or
am I missing something? Re-read my post for all the details. I don't want to write it all out again. :)

There is hand mining on planets and even on asteroids

I don't think you can mine anywhere you want. You can mine on planets in special mines locations. Fly there, then go undeground via elevator, and then mine there.

edit:after the hand mining nerf anything about planet mining is skewed, misactor bombs also dont drop anything on planets(only asteroid fields, someone else can confirm whether they get a frame drop and zero ore on bomb detonation on planets?)

You need to find rocks,roughly the size your second ship, so skimming along the ground or going to an asteroid field, i suggest finding sweet greens and purples(any shiny spotted rock will do, those are wolfram and asortak), and dont be annoyed when your loot lister doesnt pop every second, its rng. a majority mined rock should yield 150~200(my last run anyway, dumped most of the coal). how to get the rank 2/3 rewards from the guild is the real question.(just as i say this, todays update added rank 2 and 3 for minersXD)

Thanks for all the help. I finally moved to just hand-mining on asteroids.

As a side note, if you press "F" with the mining device in your hands, you drop something that looks like an explosive. I haven't found a way to detonate it yet. Hints and future features...? :D

Apparently when pressing F it sends a drone to eat into the asteroid and find deposits? I forget what word it used, if you look in Character and then hover mouse over the mining hand tool it will mention it. It seems you can have 2 of these drones working at the same time. They turn red and stop, I do not know if this means they found something or just become inert if they don't find anything. Perhaps this feature isn't full implemented. There is no in-game tutorial for it yet.

But I like this idea opposed to just hovering up the whole asteroid.

I did notice I got 3 coal in my Ship Cargo hold. But I did not know when I did that, I was just LMB and RMB beaming everywhere around the drone that was red and hoped while I was deforming the rock some ore was being mined. I think it would be great if the Drone shot out a holo-beam showing where the minerals are- sort of like in NMS when you scan the area and see a square grid mesh of where it is. Something like that and then we know where to aim and mine.

Any Components or Turrets console at any station will buy it.

If you are hand mining then it auto pickups whatever you mine out. When mining it is a bit of an RNG between destroying or collecting the ore, check the levels of your mining laser, it can be toggled between power (destroying ore), and efficiency.
