It would be helpful if he took a minute to explain ship classes and what each can or can't do, and maybe even tagged the ships as to what class they belong in (hauler, fighter, explorer; You know, kind of like No Man's Sky does?) Wasted quite a bit of currency buying mining equipment to discover it won't mount to my ship
Some tips I can think of off the back of my hand:
- Get into the Huge (T1 Carrier, carriers are the mining ships) as soon as possible.
- Keep the Misactor modules upgraded
- Only go after Gold -> Platinum -> Wolfram -> Asortak
For mining technique, this is what I found that works the best for me:
When first mining an asteroid, use the Misactor's Bomb in the center going from the front to the back of the asteroid until you hit a deposit. Then mine the deposit. Basically, from the viewing the front of the asteroid and using bombs, you're looking at making a + pattern. (bomb the center all the way through, then from the top to bottom. Then right to left. If you still haven't found a deposit, then move to a * (diagonal "cuts").
Tunneling will destroy the deposits. Not sure what the point of the Worms are.
Also, don't bother to compress the ore unless you have the 100% compression skill. If you're looking at "camping", then go after Gold asteroids - it's probably has the best money/hour anyways. Also, only sell the ore to the Mining Guild stations. Even with the T1 tax, iirc, it is still less than selling to a non-guild station.
Base values (remember that the mining guild takes a cut):
Gold - 2,200
Platinum - 3,050
Wolfram - 8.200
Asortak - 22,500 (or was it 32,500? I'll have to double-check, but Asortak deposits are tiny)
If I had a suggestion to the developer, it would be:
1. Make the Carrier class a drone-based combat ship (Not sure if the Falron Tank is a carrier or fighter atm. Either way, it would be a Carrier).
2. Make a new ship class called "Mining Barge". The Huge ships would fall under this new ship class.
3. Make the Worms into semi-automated mining "things". Basically, they would eat through the asteroid and deposit whatever they "eat" into your inventory.
4. Mining drones...
5. Please squash the asteroid scan/info window bug.
6. Increase the adventurer XP for mining
7. Not specifically mining related, but decrease the cost of drones to 10% of what they cost now since they are disposable.
8. Mining guild contracts: Turn in an X amount of [type] ore.
9. Increase the types of ores there are and base them in reality (ie: the table of elements)
10. Redo the asteroid spawns and have asteroid sizes (tiny, small, medium, large, huge) which designates the quantity of deposits, asteroid classes and rarity which would designate the deposits in the asteroid). The asteroid's texture (albedo channel) would naturally fall under the appropriate asteroid class (for example, a class M asteroid has an albedo of 0.14)
As far as 9. goes, I haven't gotten into crafting/engineering yet, but if it was up to me, items would need to have a ground-up approach. Basically, the end item would require components; those components would craftable and require various ores, although they would n't require a significant amount (1 or 2 of each).

If I fill the tank up and get a better rate I can easily get 25 mil. I'm sure the mining ship is more with its larger cargo.
