Also, don't accidentally click the "Defaults" button, that resets all your control preferences with no warning. The game definitely needs some quality-of-life enhancements but the potential for a great enduring game is definitely high.

na i didn't touch the default button and while it is in early access controls really should be nailed down early on imo

You have to save the game after mapping.
.............................for 1 thanks for the info i appreciate it but 2, wtf doesn't it say to use the save/load option as that's not obvious that you have to use it when every other game has a separate save button for the controls

If you go to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\SB2\Saved\SaveGames you'll see an Inputs.sav file, I haven't tried backing it up yet, but I would say judging from its contents that saves your input mappings. I can't get the game to work with my dual sticks, it'll let me map them, but in-game won't recognize anything (VKB Gladiator NXT Premium Left and Right, for games like Star Citizen the input quality is amazing, dual sticks is almost a must if you want to effectively dogfight in that game.) SB2's Keyboard+Mouse flight is pretty good, so I haven't really prioritized the sticks yet, does anyone know how to get it to recognize dual sticks?

Mapping doesn't work at the main menu. Nothing is saved when you get in game. You must map the HOTAS during play. Then it will recognize it the next time you load up.... probably as mentioned above it has a chance to save it.

Be warned that there is a huge dead spot that you can't reduce for the right stick. What I did to help the issue was increase the arch in the manufactures software for my HOTAS X/Y axis on the stick. Thought maybe flatting it out would help, but that seemed to only increase the jerkyness in game.

If you find that activating warp during calibration your ship starts to wildly rock from side to side, increasing each time it swings..... don't worry it still works. The difficulty of being able to pinpoint the middle of the warp target causes this. And the deadspot makes it worse. If not using a HOTAS the calibration sticks to the center, but for some reason using a HOTAS creates this wobble. If you can get the cross hairs almost at the exact center of the warp target it usually sticks, but it can be an aggravating process.

Tip. Even though the settings will see both throttle and stick, and allow you to map axis and buttons for both... only 1 will work in game. You need to set up your HOTAS as 1 device.

Another tip. During some instances in game when story dialog occurs or after warping into a mission area the HOTAS may not respond. The game for unknown reasons will turn "relative mode" on/off. Hitting "k" will usually fix the issue. Pretty sure this occurs when a dialog box with choices occur that need your input.

Another tip. When you get to the point of hijacking another ship..... you're HOTAS no longer works for that ship. So make sure you have the ability to fly with m/kb when you need to.
